Default How Did You Get To Where You Are?

Now this thread is purely on an individual and personal term.

We all have our own beliefs. How we have them are different stories....

So what Im wondering is: At this stage in your life and the beliefs you have now, how did they come about?

Was it family? Friends? Personal experiences? Classes? Research? if so... what made you research whatever it was?

If you are in a religion or group, how did you become part of it? Etc. Etc.

Were there or are there any doubts about what you believe? Were there obstacles to overcome?

For many of us, there is a story behind what molded our views and ideas. Just asking each one to share. =)

So lets not turn this into a debate as this is just each one sharing his/her story.

well i believe there is some sort of diety, but not sure what religion describes it best. i don't have an optimistic nor pestimistic view of this diety so i guess i'll explain the reason for that.
it seems that this "god" loves to taunt me, everything good that happens, except the birth of my daughter, ends up just being a short(1-48 hours) calm before a "storm". though sometimes it does actually seem like what "god" is doing is laying out a path and when i get to far off of it, it throughs me back on. i feel that i've had a vision of where that path ends(compleatley sober now and when it happened) and i feel that the "storms" only happen when that certain end is drifting from possible and the tragedies that i call storms do make me closer to the path i saw.

so to sum that up in a few sentences, i believe in a supreme diety that lays out a path for us and makes sure we stay on it. i believe that because i had a vision of my path that just seemed to real to be a normal dream.

No, you were correct. My brain just does weird things sometimes.

Btw... Would you mind elaborating on the dream?

well it was several different dreams just basically showing my death, all are in a car with 2 people, me being the passanger, and at first i don't see faces just can tell it's a girl driving guy in the passenger side. both of there faces were blank. then the dream changes each time but i'll tell the 2 main reaccuring ones
1. the passenger, me, lays his faceless head down on the dash, then the driver, although has no face, seems depressed. then my hands reach over to the wheel, although there not my real hands they seem more spiritual than anything, then they grab the wheel and crash the car into a wall on a highway. then as it looks like a fu**ing crash dummy car, very bloody, the girl crawls over towards me. when she gets there a smile appears on the faceless head followed by a quick glimps of the whole face and it's mine. i wake up there and the girls face doesn't really show
2. it starts the same with the 2 people in the car without faces, but it get's alittle different. it doesn't show the guys face, but it does end up show the girl driving. and she looks angry rather than sad in this one. her 2 hands are on the wheel but like the last one where 2 spiritual hands take control, it happens again but the 2 hands from her not me then the crash and the crawing to be with eachother. then what felt about 3 minutes of bleeding from both of us, my body started to dissapear but i woke up there.

the only reason that makes me believe in a diety, is because of how frequently it happens, that it always puts me through pain, it sometimes opens up old closed scars and they start bleeding, and it only happens when i'm on common talking grounds with the girl in the dream

I came to my own belief (so far) by loooooots of research. Since two years ago actually, I've been very fascinated in finding out things I always questioned. In fact, that was why I was Christian up until my sophomore year. Then after researching other religions, I started to think: "Hey... what's the deal? There is really something similar going on in all of these religions. They all seem to have... the same general purpose."

It really took the ability to question what I was being told by a church to understand that, quite often (and more than that even), things are not what they appear to be in the world, and for people and idea's.

Before I wanted to go into college majoring in some kind of art course, some kind of design. But lately (over the last few years) I've been thinking of instead going into more of a research and development style field. Like Chemistry, or somewhere in science. This has nothing to do with religion, btw, I just want to learn how things work. lol

Thats good that you not only questioned things but also made the effort to do research. Not many people take the time to do that. Either they just dont care or take other people's word for it.

So you said you used to be christian until sophomore year... what do you believe in now? O.o

Well if I have to be honest, I don't have a belief in any religion. I don't believe in any gods, necessarily, either.

I would say that I most fit into an atheist category, but I dislike using the terms "religious" or "atheist," as I very much don't like to think about people in terms of some kind of category.

However, though, I don't have any problems believing in a divine creator whatsoever. It just progressed over time that I don't like forcing up my own free-will toward something that has never been seen, and to something that is supposed to expect me to "give in" to its will simply because I'm "supposed to." There's no real reason to and I'd much rather go my own path, y'know?

What about you? What do you believe in?

Hmmm... okay, well personally I do believe in God, as spoken of in the Hebrew and Christian Greek Scriptures...

However, I dont hold the same beliefs as many in the world who profess to be Christian do....

There's a long story how I got to where I am.... I've always had a rocky life... but there was a period in my life that I really sat down and thought about stuff. Started studying and researching and seeing if what I was studying had any positive effect on my life and seeing if it made sense, seeing if there were proofs that I could really say, "hey this might actually be right".

I've had doubts, I'm sure everyone has, but from what I've studied and seen in my life I hold my beliefs to be true.
