Rep Power: 2 ![]() | I'm just wondering what the particulars are for those who do not like Christianity. Is it the people, the teachings, God, others, or even a combination? I'm merely curious as to the exact reasons that people don't like the religion. Also, please remember the "No Religion Bashing" rule. If you post, please say something more thoughtful than, "Christianity sucks!", "People who believe that are so stupid!", "They're a bunch of losers!", etc. Thank you for your time. EDIT: Also, to any Christians who may be viewing this. I would like to say that this isn't a combative contest between Christianity and Non-Christianity. This is only to help understand why it is that people dislike it. Please, don't respond with any kind of malice. Last edited by kazukifafner; 05/27/08 at 06:38 AM. |

| Keyblade Wielder | Because they force their opinions on everybody, because of the Christians who hate gay people, and because it is Christianity that has caused most of the world's suffering. Like they killed millions of people in just 2, 000 years. |

| Ruler of Light | I'm a believer in God myself, but from various debates I'm been seeing all around, and from general information I've been hearing, the main factor is the sort of hypocrisy which (some) live in, and then attempt to force judgement on another non-believer. So I think it's mainly due to teachings. |

| Raping the world of happiness | I love to see how people base their opinions on the few Christians they know. I am Catholic so i am Christian and yet i know alot of people within our religion that believe that a homosexual relationship is ok. Also being open to other peoples ideas and beliefs are as well common within the people i know. Now of course if you say you hate Christianity because the priest touch little boys than I will give you that reason. But really a normal Christian tends to be open more than the hardcore relgious CHristians. |

Rep Power: 4 ![]() ![]() | It doesn't matter. Everybody makes pre-judgments towards a specific group of people. I'm not going to suddenly attack anyone because of their beliefs without prior provocation. But given the "few" Christians that I know, I can make the assumption that the next I meet will be much the same. It's like dealing with the disgruntled customer. Monotonous and predictable. But whether or not I decide to "like" someone will be determined when I get a sample of the individual. |

Rep Power: 13 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I would say it is more or less a combination of the people, and some of the teachings (such as homosexuality being a sin, which I very strongly disagree with, despite not being such myself). Mostly though, it's the people. Even though the religion preaches kindness, respect, love, and tolerance, many are not like that at all.Of course, every religious or non religious group has its bad seeds, but Christianity's in particular jump out at me. Note I'm using "many", not "all", or even "most". I know very well that there are good christians, I've met quite a few. That, and my relationship with my family (who are christian, of the Mormon sect if you'd like me to be specific) has been severely strained ever since I came out as an agnostic to them. They didn't take it as bad as they could have, for that I'm grateful, but it's been somewhat rocky ever since. I now realize that was a stupid idea, and that I should have waited. Obviously, some resentment for Christianity has formed due to this. On the whole though, I don't have any particularly strong apathy towards the religion. I just wish so many of them (as well as adepts to other religions) didn't spread so much hate towards us. However, I will admit that naturally some of us are to blame for that bad rep (as I stated above, within every group, there are bad people, but often not all the people in said group are bad). Rep Power: 7 ![]() ![]() | As people have been saying, it's not the religion itself that's at fault, but rather the people who believe it. It's a set pattern in society; perfectly good ideas are always ****ed up by a few zealots or idiots who feel like they need to take everything the extra mile and inforce it to a ludicrous extent. |

Rep Power: 1 ![]() | Catholics are fine as every other religion. I'm one. I've not killed people. :| Most people make snap decisions apparently about us. o.O I can't help but wonder the same question kazukifafnr... A lot of people that are not christian have killed. Not JUST Christians. Last edited by DarkenedWings; 05/27/08 at 06:17 PM. |

Rep Power: 15 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | lol what are you talking about? You shouldn't be surprised everyone hates Christianity. It's even said in the Bible that everyone would turn against you for being on God's side. People hate it, because it convicts them. No other belief tells them that "Jesus" is the only way to Heaven. Every other belief operates on good works, good ideas, and ritualistic offerings. Therefore, feeling convicted by a belief or idea, they are offended, and take offense to Christianity. So, it's really of no surprise to me. And it really shouldn't bother me. The fact that some people might hate me is just a sign that I'm doing it right, and not being a hypocrite by trying to please both parties. Though I'm sure a good part of it has to do with Christians who leave a bad taste in the unbeliever's mouth. "Christians" who hate, deceive, and persecute. Quote:
Yet, hating me for what they did doesn't bring anyone back to life.

If Islam interfered with law-making and such, it'd leave a bad taste on my mouth as well. If I was born in Iran, I'd probably be pissed at Muslims and sympathetic towards the Christian minority. But since in my little corner of the world it's the Christians, not the Muslims, banning homosexual marriage, halting stem-cell research and trying to force beliefs into science class, Christianity takes the heat. You're the majority religion; the good comes with the bad. Believe me when I say that if Christians stopped trying to enforce beliefs via law, and accepted their belief as a belief and nothing more, the dislike wouldn't exist, in fact, you'd be liked because the message of Christianity is rather nice.

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | honestly myself i dont care about religion but i got a brother who's satanic and a freind{deciest} who was anti-christian i asked them both why awhile back my brother said "Beacause the bible doesnt make sence to me, it says that only jesus went to heaven. yet everyone's like 'do good things and you'll go to heaven'. I read both the bible and the satanic bible and the satanic bible made so much more sence." and my freind said "christains dont live up to their teachings. Thats why i dont like them." so basicly thats their veiws. and why they dont like christianity |

| Dogen, it's not the religion that is judging everyone else, it's the people that *claim* to follow the religion. Now, I know that there is a lot of grey area here, but in my experience I've always either loved the Christians I've met or talked to, or hated them. There are the Christians that try to be good people and are accepting of other people like they are supposd to, and then there are the Christians that try to condemn anything that remotely goes against their sacred text, or rather, their perception of the text. (You, OmniChaos, and XIII Heartless come to mind) Stop shoving religion down everyone's throat, act like a decent human being, and keep your religious practices private until asked about. Not everyone wants to know that you say five 'Hail Mary's before you go to bed, or that you believe that any non-Christian is going to be damned to an eternal hell. I don't care what you're into, as long as it isn't hurting someone else or messing with someone else's right to their own thoughts or their right to privacy. Now, that isn't to say that Christians are the only group of people that I have a problem with; many of the hardcore Musliims are also batshit crazy, and certain other groups of people are also disrespectful towards other's privacy or right to their own beliefs. |
