Best Religion

I would like this to be as positive a discussion as possible and less a hot headed debate. If you do not think you can handle that, please do not post.

Moving along....

This thread's goal is to see what each person thinks is the best religion. Now please note, you do not have to have a religion, or even believe in religion, or a god for that matter to be involved in this thread. As long as you stay respectful and as positive as possible you may post.

So what do you believe is the "best" religion? When I say best, think of the specific teachings, their values, the things they promote, their effect on the community etc.

Think about this: If the religion you think is the best choice, how would the world be if everyone on earth was that religion? Would you still think it’s the best way?

Now please note that this is on specific religions (and please try being as specific as possible and not general for example instead of saying "Christians" but rather a specific Christian group).

Once again please be respectful, if you know what that word means. Do not instigate quarrels please. If you disagree with a statement that someone has made, you are more than welcome to point out why but for emphasis, the keyword here is RESPECTFULLY.

So what do you think the best religion is? (best not necessarily correct)

If you think it’s your own religion please state why and what attracted you to it. The same would go for religions that you may not be a part of.

Last thing.... don’t say NO religion is the best religion or anything along those lines.

Does Atheism count as a Religion?
I think people will say the Religion that they follow is the best for the very fact that they are part of that Religion.
I'm Roman Catholic so by my beliefs I would have to say anything that holds faith in Jesus. Christianity in a whole I guess.

Why right off the back do you expect people to get angry? If they are respectful, if people really know what that word means, then things should not heat up. I've seen many other threads where lots of anger is present. However those threads are not closed. Lets see how this goes first, and then if things do not work out well, then we'll see if it should be closed or not.

I really dont see the big deal why people are already up tight about this thread. =/ Its strictly opinion based. Its not about who is right or wrong or which is better than the other. Its like a treatment a doctor might give you, he may think a certain treatment is the best option for your ailment, just his educated opinion. Anyway, please remember, if you are going to post a religion, try explain a little reason why you think its the best.

I'm not saying it will be closed, I'm saying that it should be.

People will get defensive. Asking what the best religion is will get people to defend their own quite heatedly.

You can't deny that it's happened, you're around here more then I am.

Key thing here is, IF people follow the rules, a person's religion will not be attacked, thus, there will no need to defend their own heatedly.

If someone respectfully points out that they dont agree, then there is no need to get defensive. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If there is a misconception that needs to be cleared up then one can go ahead and do it in a calm respectful manner.

I dont expect everyone to abide by the rules as we all know there are those who just do whatever they please. For those, we can ignore those comments. There is no need to indulge such behavior. Instigators will no doubt be present. As long as we dont resort to animalistic ways this thread can go on. If we all work together for that this should work. Do i expect it? No. Would I like it? Yes.

As I said before, we'll see where it goes, and if it gets out of hand, then i'll close it.

You forget that no one follows the rules here. Either way, best is an opinion that is subject to the beholder. I'm going to say Christianity, an Atheist would say Atheism, etc.

Exactly. That is what I have already stated. So lets not point out that this wont end well and continue with the discussion. So far its fine, only no one believes in this thread haha :-p

There are a lot of other threads out there that cause debating maddness heheh, such as evolution vs. creation. Why is it that this thread is already being condemned and those threads are flourishing? O.o This thread is quite different as its based on one's personal opinion, and not some facts that people can pull out of a book or off of the web and throw at each other.

Think of it as a favorite. Everyone has different tastes in things. Why would one get upset over another person's likes solely because they dont like.... lets say, vanilla ice cream?

So lets continue with the discussion as so far all seems well. Just tell us what you think is best (opinion, not fact) and the reasons why.

So, I'm confused. Are you expecting someone to say a religion that's not their own or something? Christians will say Christianity, Muslims will say Islam, and so on.

That said, if anything, I like Humanism. For those who don't know what it is, wikipedia provides:

"Humanism is a broad category of ethical philosophies that affirm the dignity and worth of all people, based on the ability to determine right and wrong by appeal to universal human qualities — particularly rationality."

It's too broad to count for anything useful, but there you go.

Well I have seen, even in this very forum, people who are of one religion but like another better and have even thought about changing to that one or checking it out at least.

On the same note, there are those who have their own religion, or at least a religion that their family is part of, and they do not like it especially. So sure, someone might say a religion that is not their own.

Hmm yeah, I actually know a few people who take that. If you ask me, I couldnt keep up. When I've talked to them about their beliefs, I just get confused hehe but I think those are the ones who go deeper and take each set of beliefs they like and put it together. Unless, I may be wrong.... that might be a different religion I am thinking of. Never the less, I still do know of people who believe more in humanism.
