He's seeing how humanity is playing out. He always had a plan to change it to "ponies and butterflies", or rather, a world set more on intelligence. I've read some of the Atlas dude's posts in other threads, and he wonders why God can't stop it. Don't we all.(?)But the thing is, I personally believe that many destructive events are to follow, as foretold by many ancient civilizations, religions, scientists, and even programs that watch the human subconcious at this point (I taped something on the Discovery Channel. Or was it the History Channel?). These will eventually kill off all the bad people, and we will all be able to live as one very prosperous civilization, with no social classes or disease (it would be nice to throw our bodies away and just be souls) in the new age.

God doesnt have a "plan" yet he has a "purpose". Anyway... throw that date away for we dont know >.>......

The whole Bible is pretty much a way to survive the forthcoming disasters etc. or at least learn to be in God's favor so that if we do die then we have the prospect of being resurrected etc etc O.o
