I'd like to point out, now that you wrote this, that God is just a name. It's a name for something we can't grasp that is responsible for the life on Earth and the universe and its balance.

Even Atheists believe in that, even though at the moment the thing that's responsible is the Big Bang.

People need to start realizing that. Suddenly all those stories in the Bible about how God spoke to [...] are suddenly a lot clearer in the way that it's basically just for people to learn from it. Not to damage the respect for the Bible, but people need to look at it like Disney movies. They are simply to learn people about how to live their lives. Don't take it all to seriously (as in LITERALLY) as that's simply a foolish way of following the "words of God".

No one can convince me that the spirit that created all and keeps it in balance (or tries) talks to humans. Let me rephrase that, talked to people, more than 2000 years ago, and after that decided to just shut up, close its book, flew away and let the world screw itself over. I don't believe anyone for that matter truly believes that. However, many still claim God really did all that...

That's what bothers me about the Christian faith.

But true, that's a whole different conversation. I just felt it was important to bring it up, during these whole "God is what?" replies.

This should help Watcher, as he thinks he's doubting his faith. By letting him thinking about these things and where his feelings for his faith are based upon, he can make up his mind if he should continue do nothing and pray for God or take action.

I'm not making him doubt about his faith, he came there all by himself.

I'm trying to show him that either his faith really is constructed on little to nothing, or actually based on other things that mean much more to him than the facts about the faith. Thus he can make up his mind.

Faith is fueled by your belief in it. There isn't a large amount of logic when it comes to what you could have faith in, but if it seems like you're beginning to question your faith, sit down and consider the reality of your situation. Don't convert what you believe in simply because you're going through a lot; there's always someone else who's in an even bigger mosh-pit of crap.

Seriously dude, all this is was a miscommunication. All you had to say was what QFT for Azazel meant. I'm not active on forums much, so whenever I am, I pick up words like QFT. In "my" time, that was the Quit F Talking. No need to keep on accusing me of being selfabsorbed. You're now escalating this whole thing. Let's call it a quit with the whole argument stuff and continue the debate.

Not really, the guy asked for help and some people took that as an open opportunity to shoot down people's faiths that they simply dont agree with. No one has to agree with anything, but there is a place and time for everything to be said, here in this thread is not the place to voice your hatred or disdain with any faith.

yeah well, there are dozens of other threads on this very forum that can easily accomidate their debates. It just bothers me a bit, that when someone is really in a situation, obviously crying out for help... and some people offered their honest advice, whereas others simply took this as an opportunity for their own selfish pursuits.

I have no problems if they debate on other threads all they want. But obviously watcher is in a situation that he feels helpless in... and I really dont feel its right to bicker about things on a tangent.

Look now Im even caught up in an argument of sorts now. So Im done.
