| I Feel So Epic. | While they aren't really practiced anymore, what's everyone's take on polytheistic religions? and in case you don't know, Polytheism is the "worship of many gods." Religions of some repute would be ancient Egyptian and Greek. |

| I Feel So Epic. | I'm not really trying to enforce anything. I'm taking a comparative religion class this term and thought discussing this would help me on the subject matter. |

Rep Power: 3 ![]() | Many gods explained to people what makes the different things on earth and controls them. Like there are many governors in America and one president that president being Zeus or Odin or who ever. Most people in ancient times did not like the idea or comprehend the idea of one all powerful being that holds all the chips. It’s like Monarchy over Republic. Do you want one person that can do anything to you bad and good or do you want many people to say that what the others are doing is not right and help out in their own ways. Just another view on the information giver (God, gods, or science of nature.) I don't care what a person thinks as long as they do not cause evil |

Rep Power: 1 ![]() | Polytheism in its early days was basically two things, one to explain the phenomenon of nature, and two a reflection of the human psyche. The idea was the gods were molded around the ideals and appearance of the people who worship them. As polytheism has evolved into modern day so have the gods. Gods no longer only represent specific phenomena but are linked to psychological concepts. Polytheism has even been applied to the sciences as specific gods representing specific laws such as electromagnetism or gravity. Polytheism is still very widely practiced today theres neo paganism, wicca (in most cases), Hinduism, some forms of satanism, some argue that even the great monotheisms really have polytheistic aspects(IE the holy trinity or Yahwe being worshiped along side his wife which is the reason for the use of "our" in the beginning of Genesis). I personally believe that polytheism is just as valid as any other religion. Where there is one there are many and from one comes many. Besides I'd rather have a bunch of humanly gods governing this existence then one single all mighty tyrant. I actually was a fully practicing Neo-Slavic Heathen for a couple of years. I still believe in many of the aspects but have drifted from it. Last edited by Sephiros_TH; 04/07/08 at 09:49 PM. |
