Here's a piece I wrote a while back:
If you were to come up to me tomorrow and say'
"I love you. Be mine?"
What would I say?
Because the years of
rejection
And hate
And fighting
And sadness have left me jaded and scarred
And my hands are bloody with disappointment
And Sir, I don't know
If you have the bandages necessary to heal these wounds
Your soft skin, pink lips and hair the color of wheat fields
Do not have the absorbency of my soul
And before I ever love you
I must love my
Scars.
I must love them,
Know them
Better than anyone
"But I just-"
Do not interrupt
You come back when you have memorized the road map of my life
That has been carved into my being
And when you know the way
Come find me
Because I know you will get lost.
You are no navigator,
Not as good as I.
I've traveled these roads
And I know their ways,
I've smelt their air,
Heard their music,
Tasted their food!
That's right, leave.
Go away.
Because that is what I want.
I can travel this alone
And I will.
Just me, myself and my road map.
Treading the forgotten
Ways of thinking
And loving
And being
And owning
And creating
Because in the end
That's all I have.
Me, myself and my road map.
