What is PoTW?


PoTW, or Poem of The Week, is biweekly contest inspired from Signature of The Week in which any member of KHI responds to the chosen theme via a poem. Then, the best poem [decided by voting] wins! The idea isn't so much about winning or losing but generate some content and generate some discussion, get people writing, thinking, and talking.

How long do I get to write the poem?

One week to write, then the day after begins voting. Voting goes on for two three days. So if today PoTW is announced, deadline is next Monday. Then, on next Tuesday, we vote. By Thursday, all the votes will be compiled and the winner decided.

How does submitting and voting work?

Alright, so you've written a poem in response to the theme. Awesome! Now, you PM the poem to me and Nevermore and we'll post the poems in the voting thread under an assigned pseudonym (a made-up name), one usually in reference to the theme. The reason for this is so to avoid voting for our friends and favorites or people asking for votes, just a safe and fair rule.

When we post them in the thread and you vote for your three favorites with a few sentences why you chose said poem. Then, as said, the results will be posted on the designated day.

Who can enter? What types of poems can we submit?

Anyone who is a member of the Kingdom Hearts Insider forums and any style goes c:

Bragging rights, the bane and wine of all writers. Plus, after the votings done, we announce the member behind the poem. But if you have any idea for prizes, hey, just PM me. But like I said, it isn't about winning or losing. Let's just have some fun, 'kay? Or how about....SOME REP?

How long does this go on/will this go on?

Depends on the success of this, really. But ideally, after the week when PoTW finishes then y'all get one week as a break. Then, back to it folks.

Aside from me being happy, I have a question in relations to the theme itself.

How much of the actual theme needs to be present in the poem? Like does it have to based off of an actual film, or does it just have to do something with film even in a minimum sense??

It's really up to you. Respond to a film, or relating things and themes to film, a poem about a memory of a film--anything goes. Maybe using filmly language and motifs to express an idea. Anything goes.

It can be anything that incorporates the concept of "film;" be it a specific movie, how movies in general make you feel, utilizing metaphors based on filming concepts, or just an overall film analogy.

The basic idea behind the themes (or at least this one) is to make them as open to interpretation as possible. Just be sure to do it so that the theme is apparent to the reader.

Also, I find KHI messes with formatting and structure which is very important to some poems so if you want to submit a screen capture of your poem, that's fine. I personally know that's what I'll do. But please don't consider plagiarism since a simple Google Image Search can remedy that.

EDIT: Though it goes without saying considering the anonymity rule, please don't post your poems outside this thread and in the forums before the announcing the winner day.
