Anything you guys would change from your experiences? I would prefer fewer sacred songs, but that's about it. Being of no religion, it kinda bothers me some constantly singing them.

People always had problems with that in middle school.
We had this amazing piece that was a psalm with accompaniment from the band & orchestra (I was going to play violin with it) and some girl got upset that it said God in it and told her parents, and the parents told the school board and we weren't allowed to sing any sacred music for the rest of my time in middle school. All the rest of the music we sang was pretty stupid. Like Seasons of Love for the fourth time and something about trees.
I mean, you can't expect to not sing stuff like that when choral music originated in the church. And most great composers wrote famous pieces as masses or with text from the Bible or whatever. Handel's Messiah, anyone?
At some point, I think we have to realize that doing that is preventing people from developing an appreciation for certain pieces and getting a full musical education. No better than censorship, in my opinion.

I was in the school choir for about a term xD Then I got pulled out because rehearsals clashed with band practise, and apparantely band practise was more important. When I was in the choir i was randomly singing parts from the soprano, and then parts from the mid section. There were a couple of us, called sopmids xD I've been thinking about trying to join again next year.

I just joined our school choir a few months ago. This is my first year in our school and well choirs are fun, I love singing and I also like the privileges, like when they tell you its choir practice, you get exempted with your current class, cooool.

I sing base and the soprano girls are amazing(not to mention beautiful) We had a contest at school and we bashed the college with awesomeness, we won all the awards WEEEEEEEEE.

...I only had one memorable(horrible) experience in elementary....the costume sucked and we we're in front of a huge crowd...i almost got traumatized by that costume...but all is good with me choir life...for now at least.

I agree. If she was so offended by it, she could've just opted not to sing it.

I would change the "missing my classes for singing lessons part." It was a pain to try to catch up with a new class each week. >< But I luved pretty much all the songs we sang, and I loved performing at night (not at skool though, that was a bit scary) The great thing was that even though I'm no good at singing whatsoever, I felt like I was in choir ^.^ But not good enuff for a solo. Never. Zomg, never.

Any of you guys ever do solos?

I got two in year 4 xD One was singing a verse of a song at a whole school assembly. The other one was for a random little churchy song for the junior choir.. that ended up being infront of two thousand people. It was rather awkward xD

And I got one in year 1 lol. We were singing the twelve days of christmas and i was the partridge in the pear tree. Thankfully there was no extravagent feathery costume required xD

Edit: Sorry! I just realized how horribly off topic I was. In high school, no solos. None ^^

The Madrigal Choir in my school gets a field trip to Six Flags among other places. Just an extra reason for why I really wanna join.

Yeah... so I have a concert on Tuesday, and I don't know the endings of any of the songs except for Carol of The Bells and E Rev Shel Sho Sha Nim (or whatever it's called). I have about 5 or more songs to learn the endings to, and only one more class until the show. [s]I'm screwed.[/s]

I auditioned for a select freshman choir in my school and just got into a separate select choir, which I am happy to get into.
I am Soprano 1 and just started again to be in chorus.
For me, the transition was a good choice for me because epic fail on flute but singing was my passion. I'm glad to start it again and I hope I will continue in it.
To me, being in a choir makes me feel more familiar within my group and be more together since a band is big with tons of distinction between people. But our choir was made smaller this year and so in a concert you can barely hear us lol. We have similar problem such as "OMG we can't hear the altos!" and some people are just starting out in singing. OUr teacher has ALOT of patience.
Oh. And we have horrible basses. ^_^''

Ah, good old days...
I used to be in our choir at school. We performed Cats and The Phantom of the Opera and I must admit that they were flawless pieces of music and acting - the original ones I mean, not our "cover"s. :D

Our choirs are growing. There might be a Men's choir in the next couple years as the make shift choir did so well at our Music Festival.

The men's group at the University of Wyoming came to our school over their spring break and preformed. They inspired so many of us to strive for music scholarships. Everyone seemed to get better after they showed up. They are on YouTube if anyone wants to look them up. The quality isn't the very best, but they are amazing singers.

I wish my school had a good choir...or really a choir at all really >_> but then again kids at my school don't care about music...or at least most of them don't

I'm in a non-audition choir, which has it's pros, and cons. We do have a very large choir (117 members), which gives us a very rich sound. But we also a get a few negative people that say "This is sooo gay!", and refuse to sing. Normally we can get these people to skip the important event though. So in the end I think not being selective in members is worth it.

I love our director, even though he's kind of known as a cocky snob around the state. He is very talented at the piano, and actually has is doctoric in music, so we call him Dr. Hampton. Some kids hate him because he pulls a lot of teeth during practice, but we always sound great come preformance time, so I don't mind.

Our choir is known to be a very prestige program around the state. We've ranked very high(Superior rating 20 years in a row) in many contests, and been invited to preform at a lot of important events. But unfortunately to our peers from other choirs we're known as the "Snob" choir, that are cocky, and refuse to socialize with any other choir. But a few others from my class, and I hope to fix that by our senior year. Next year we're going to try to reach out and socialize during contest time.

My exprience in choir has been amazing. I've been in choir since 1st grade, and I hope to keep on contributing to my high school's music program. I'm in two jazz choirs, and our one concert. I sing baritone(high bass), and maybe low tenor next year. I don't claim to be the best in my year, or even my section(my best friend has me beat), but I wouldn't say I'm not talented. This year I earned the top rank (Superior) at the high school level contest, on a solo I did individual work on. Working on my own solo took a lot of work, and at some points I wanted to quit, but it was worth all the work to get top ranks! I also have been accepted to many All State choir events. So overal I think being in high school choir is worth it.
