I've listened to several of their songs. Some of my personal favorites are American Idiot, Blvd. of Broken Dreams, Holiday, etc. Overall they are a pretty decent band.
| Holiday's the only decent song on your list. The other two had the shit hyped out of them.
Minority, Jesus of Suburbia, Basket Case, Give me Novacaine, and Longview are my personal favorites.
And, really, I don't know why I like Green Day so much. I hated them when I was younger, they represented everything terrible in modern music to me. They still do, too. Despite that, I really do love their sound, even if it's simple, even if it's weak by the standards of everything else I listen to, there's just something about them. They're just so painfully charismatic, or something like that.
It's just totally impossible to describe.

To me, none of the members of Green Day genuinely seemed politicized enough to be preaching and pressing their views on others. And so, because of that, they seemed like sell-outs: using the theme political disillusionment to sell records, and ultimately make great deal of money.
Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Wake Me Up...were really crap, though I can't tell whether that was because I was subjected to listen to them literally hundreds of times, or not.
Jesus of Suburbia was really the highlight of the LP, and Whatsername, Holiday, St. Jimmy, and American Idiot were pretty good.
However, the rest of the album just seemed like fillers, without the coherence of Jesus of Suburbia and Homecoming. What could have been rock opera, ended up being second rate. So again, not exactly their best record. | |
