Zatoichi is easily my favorite character to come from Asian cinema. He's a blind masseur that wanders Edo Japan with a gambling habit and also a master swordsman. He is a defender of the weak and all around good man. Despite the loss of his eyesight, he is an extremely deadly fighter. The cool part is that he fights like he is blind, as in he never advances on the enemy, only reacts to sound and touch (at lightning-quick speeds).
I highly recommend the films. Not only are they full of some nice action, but generally pretty entertaining all around.

If you enjoyed Zatoichi and haven't already watched all of Kurosawa's films, I reccomend Seven Samurai and Yojimbo. They are both great. Yojimbo is a bit similar to Zatoichi except he is not blind. Yojimbo wanders into town, saves it, and leaves. Quote: |

What did your sensei say were the pros of it? Every style has weaknesses, and this style's is it's harder to block. | |

It's on the summer wall. See these movies before the sequel's come out.. So you think there might be a new installment soon?
Anyway, I'll watch it tonight, and post back here to say how I thought it was. <3
