Default What makes Twilight so hatable? [spoilers abound]
I'm wondering what exactly makes Twilight such a hated piece of writing. I've read the first few pages in the first book but turned away due to the patronizing diction, and heard that there was a vegetarian vampire. I get these two. I also get that overly popular books - the blame on [pre]teenaged girls - are trashy. I also get that "kiddie books" being on top of the best-seller list is horrible. But is that all? What makes you(a twilight-fan killer) absolutely go crazy about Twilight? And I'm not asking for a sentence or an "it's shit". I'm asking for a reasonable, and readable, [s]essay[/s] reason why. Something that may make a non-Twilight reader be so repulsed at even the sight of a Twilight book cover.
  • The Twilight hate-club is unorganized, so it's hard to find a reason. I want something clear.
  • As a non-Twilight reader I have an almost unbiased view, so. I'm not trying to find some hole in the hate [and vice-versa].

A lot of my friends (who are girls) really, really enjoy it.
And obviously, if it sells as well as it does, it's not hated throughout.

That being said, it can be a very annoying book, especially for guys.
Why's this?
Because of the ridiculous description given of Edward, the main vampire protagonist.
He has absolutely no flaws, and for that matter, really any real defining characteristics. He stalks the girl to the point where she should call the police. He doesn't let her in intentionally, and is frequently a jerk unnecessarily.
And she's got other guys who would take her.
But most girls who read it get too wrapped up in the perfect beauty that is Edward to even care.

For the record, I read the first one (because my girlfriend really wanted me to), but didn't see reason to continue.

That's my look on it, anyway.

There are three types of Twilight haters

1) The kind that make up the Twilight Hateclub, who hate it simply because it's popular. Most of them haven't actually read the books, and just go by what others say about them. They come up with shit reasons like "Well Edward is a stalker that's so not cool stupid girls thinking that's cool like Bella ugh she's so dumb".

2) People who actually read the books, and realize it's quite a terrible piece of literature. They notice how similar the entire series is to badly written fanfiction, and find the characters to be bland, yet accurate comparisons to real teens (See: Most teens are pretty fucking boring).

3) madammina, and her stupid idea that all vampires in literature MUST be soulless spawns of hell.

There's something else I typed up in the Twilight Hateclub, but I don't feel like sifting through the "lol guise isnt twilight just the dumest god right".

Meh, it's a fad. People like to be part of a hating crew, for some reason.

I honestly only joined the Twilight Hateclub because of the fact that it was a poorly written fanfiction.

Like the others said, most probably hate it do to its popularity.

As for me, my friend started to get into it, then gave me book 1 to read myself. I couldn't be bothered to read past the first chapter. I'll just stick to Vampire Knight, lol.

Ningacom kinda killed the question, but yes, that's totally it.

As for what Sorrow said, yeah, I think people like to join those kind of hating clubs because they feel like they need to get out the rebellious side to them.

There are several reasons for Twilight hate. Some of them aren't very good, others are actually understandable and supported. And some people (me) are just incredibly stubborn and anti-fad.

Pretty much why I hate it to a degree. Also, all the dumb ass fangirls of it makes it a big reason to hate it for me :V

I've never actually read the books, so I can't really have an opinion about how it was written.
I don't so much hate the books as I do the people who read them. "OMGiggles! Edward Cullen!~**swoon**<3<3", etc.
