Re: Enter Shikari Undoubtedly awesome. Anyone that says otherwise has not listened to them carefully enough.
Take to the Skies is a brilliantly crafted LP from start to finish - each song builds on the next, the intercessions ensure each song seamlessly flows in to the next, and the rises and falls in the album are timed with perfection. In all, it is an incredibly elegant record, and outshone most other albums in the year it came out.
I think Anything Can Happen In The Next Half An Hour is an extremely underrated song, and perhaps surprisingly one of the most beautiful, unique and intelligent unrequited love songs too. I love the way it starts with a snapshot of a moment, and then the as the music builds up layers, the story unfolds. The use of varied tempo and pacing to control and condition our emotional response is outstanding. To me it is more than a just song, there is something theatrical about it, it is an entire story of a failed romance compressed into 4 minutes of exceptional music.
Adieu is another one of my favourite songs of theirs. Stripped bare of the screamo and energy of most of the other songs, it is gentle and calm, and this quiet emotion is incredibly touching. Because there are few lyrics, every word means something, and the repetition of the simple statement "I could be anywhere when I am holding you" depicts a sincerity and depth of feeling that can rarely be achieved by most artists.
The masterful combination of lyrics and music conjures a very vivid visual element, to complement and enhance our auditory experience. I find their music always in flux, always evolutionary, energetic, intense, and that is to say nothing of their live sets. They are a complex fusion of J-Metal and Post Hardcore at its finest.
[Sorry to go on a bit, but I do feel very passionately about Enter Shikari.] |
