Default Sol

As the sun peeked over the horizon, it released its brilliant light, filling the cloudy sky with shades of yellows, oranges, and reds. Trees and plants became nothing but shadows to one who would be looking at the sunrise. The crystal clear lake reflected the beautiful sunrise, becoming a near perfect copy of the artistic masterpiece which hung so proudly above it. The pristine sunrise, though short, was a masterpiece of its own, for there never was a sunrise exactly like it, nor will there ever be one, for each is its own, unique masterpiece.

A group of buildings, each one almost capable of being considered a mansion, sat no further than a short jog from the lake. The buildings were a shade of tan with grey roofs, ranging in shades. Each building had several castle-like architecture built onto it and looked more like a large castle than a collection of buildings from a distance. The buildings were all separated, save for three buildings at the center rear which made a shape similar to a 'H', but were still close together and were only a short walk from each other. At the center of all of the buildings was a beautiful garden, full of flowers of all colors and a pond with an elegant fountain at its center. The garden's pure beauty could calm almost any soul. With exception to the back of the collective buildings, which sat against and amongst the line of trees, most of the collective was surrounded by flat land, with a few trees here and there, which was then surrounded by a wooded area.

This place was the Eos Boarding School, one of several schools scattered across the Earth to help train and educate the people known as the Helio. The land that this school sat on was originally a large subdivision, but was generously bought out by the Eos Boarding School and transformed into the beautiful landscape which surrounded the school.

As the sun peeked through the collection of trees that separated the school and lake, alarm clocks across the dorms began to go off. It was the beginning of another day.

---------------------------

The alarm clock sounded its dreadful cry, forcing Gendou from his peaceful and welcoming state of sleep. As he stretched and wiped the sleep from his eyes, he began that unwanted transition from sleep to awakeness. As a yawn escaped his mouth, Gendou slowly pushed himself upward, the sheets slipping off his chest as he did. The cool air hit Gendou's bare chest, causing a shiver to engulf his body and goose bumps to stand at attention. This had inadvertently sped up his awakening process. Now, far more awake, Gendou slipped his legs out from underneath the sheets and turned his body a full ninety degrees and to the side of the bed in a single, fluid motion. As he pulled himself to his feet, the cool air hit his bare skin again, causing the shiver and goose bumps to return once again.

"Another day..." Gendou moaned, scratching his crotch from behind the fabric of his boxers. "Joy..."

Unlike most of the students who lived in the dorms, Gendou lived by himself, which he preferred. While it is not completely certain as to how Gendou was able to get on his own, most believed he either ran everyone else off or 'persuaded' the administration to allow him to live by himself.

Gendou grabbed his shirt and placed his arms into the sleeves before pulling the rest of the shirt over his head and pulling it down to his waist. He quickly put on his pants and pulled his belt through the loops and buckling it. He slipped on a pair of socks and pulled his boots into place. Gendou walked over to his coat rack, which held his trench coat, picking up and putting on the ruby cross as he went. He put the trench coat on, making sure it was comfortable before continuing. He reached into his pockets and pulled out a pair of black gloves, which he placed over his hands, making sure that there were no holes in it. Finally, Gendou pulled out a pair of sunglasses from his other pocket, which he placed on top of his head.

Giving one final look around the room, Gendou picked up a spool of thread before opening the door and walking out into the hallway.

Elinour was dozing lightly on the windowsill when the alarm clock screeched next to his ears.

With a twitch, Elinour was immediately awake, his hand smashing on top of his alarm clock, immediately cutting off its obnoxious whine. With a sigh, Elinour went back to his position on the windowsill and looked outside. He had tried changing the pitch of his alarm clock, but with little success. But maybe it was a good thing. His alarm clock screeched with such a teeth rattling pitch, it made his delicate ears hurt. But.... it woke him up at least.

The Eos Boarding School was quite beautiful. Elinour had been up late last night looking over the grounds, thinking of a new song he was writing about the beauty of nature. Sometime through the night, he had probably fallen asleep. He looked down at the manuscript which, during the night, had gently fallen onto the ground under his bed. The black notes were scribbled and crossed out multiple times. It was a hard song to write.

Elinour picked it up, put it on his desk, and stretched, scratching his hair. After a quick visit to the bathroom, Elinour walked over to his desk and picked up his headphones, cramming it into his ears. Ahh... the sound of music. It woke him up more completely than any coffee had a hope of doing so.

Another day. Elinour quickly changed into his day clothes, turned up his headphones, shouldered his guitar case, and, with a quick glance towards his other roommates, walked out the door.

The sunlight was a welcome friend and an unpleasant enemy for Charlie as it came time to wake up. His alarm clock was special being that it's solar activated, but was made of electrical circuitry. The boy's bare hand slammed on the clock causing a small surge of electricity centered around his right hand. He sat up in a cold sweat trying to contain the pain. Mornings were always like this and he hated it. Charlie went off to get ready in the bathroom. He looked sleep deprived, just a bit, due to the fact that hitting his alarm clock bare-handed was a pain in the ass. Wearing the gloves he hand to sleep just irritated him at night so sometimes he stayed awake so as long as he played violin music to keep his roommates asleep as he worked in the darkness.

"A prison," The boy stated with his soft, melancholic voice as he left the room, "A prison because of our gifts from God. This place keeps us safe and yet never feels right. Dead with them, dead without them."

Charlie stared down at the inscription of his violin, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." His mother instilled that belief strongly in her children and when she passed, Charlie made sure Meredith would remember. The boy lived by those words. Even though he lived in fear of being an "abomination" all his life, he had people watching over him and overs to tell him otherwise or so he hoped. Just another day started with dangerous thinking for Charlie.

Tavish sat behind his desk, rather annoyed at the past days events, he was really annoyed by the fact that Gendou was causing problems again. "Last I checked the students wee supposed to listen to the teachers, yet he is always starting trouble in class." It wasn't really that big of an issue, but many of the students had fears, or rather interesting dispositions of others affinities.

Class was about to start, but when the students arrived it would be obvious that class was being held in the outdoor area that led from the sparring level 5 class. You could call it gym, but it was more of a class that helped on enforcing their powers into better versions of controlled force, that or a way to define oneself and not lose control.

"Yeh, today is the day that I teach these bitches about mindfulness of their surrounds." He paced back and forth behind his cherry oak wood desk, but then relocated outside and looked up into the sun. For this early in the morning it was a bit too bright, but there was nothing to be done about it. "Not naturally anyway, "he scoffed, scratching his nearly bald head.......

Classes would be starting in less than 20 minutes, Tavish only hoped that everyone was on time. They normally were. There was no reason to be late to class.

Delphine was closer to the dorms now, after her third time around the lake she was ready to take a quick shower and head off to class. This was her favorite thing to do, a long morning jog around the lake just before the sun reaches the horizon. She stopped on the edge, closest to the buildings and placed her hand on her neck and then looked at her clock.

"Nice strong pulse...perfect!" Delphine smiled to herself and started off again making her way back to the dorms. Her mp3 player started up Beethoven's 9th and she closed her eyes taking a deep breath with the fresh morning air. It was a perfect morning, but then she realized this morning was her class with Tavish, the teacher who just seemed to push her harder than she could.

Delphine's hair sprang to life, flying out from the braid and stopped her before she ran straight into the door.

"Thanks, maybe I shouldn't run with my eyes closed..." she said; never knew if her hair could hear her, bit it seemed strange that it had a life of it's own.

Opening the door and taking a right she reached her door to her room and touched the door knob right as her roommate's alarm went off. She was running late, Delphine always was in and out before her roommate was awake.

Walking into the room she grabbed her towel and shower needs and rushed to shower, taking the last open shower, and taking only five minutes to lather, rinse, and dry; she quickly got dressed in her room with her roommate rolled over away from the alarm and whining. Delphine rolled her eyes and walked out the door...time to face the first class of the day...

Diane walked up to the front steps of the Eos Boarding School holding three folders under her left arm. With her free hand she adjusted the spectacles perched upon her nose. Around her, dozens of students stood frozen, motionless, as if someone had just pressed pause on the remote controlling the world. It was the secret to her perfect attendance. Just take a walk that would normally take an hour in a fraction of the time. Give a woman the power to freeze time and you have the super secretary. Never late, never missing a dead line, and endlessly efficient. Of course, her ability to control time didn’t only make her a proficient worker; it made her one of the more formidable students at Eos. Of course, she’d never show her outward arrogance to anyone. No, she had a reputation to keep. Not only that, but the students saw her as a cold and possibly heartless woman who could be in two places at once. Who was she to tarnish such a reputation?

She snapped her fingers and suddenly, everything broke into motion. Diane had pressed play. The world was in its proper flow again. A few students let out startled gasps as, to their eyes; she merely appeared out of thin air. Letting a small smile creep upon her face, she began to walk and vanished once again. Strolling casually though the hallways, she turned the corner into one of the many corridors leading up to where she thought Tavish would be. With another snap she reappeared. Turning to the side, she stopped and tapped a passing student on the shoulder. The young man jumped and looked like he was about to tuck and roll in an attempt to escape Diane grasp. Of course this particular student had reason to be afraid. His name was Terry Finnegan. A year and a half back he’d shot a spit ball into Diane’s hair. Diane sent a pickup truck back at him. Of course, Diane knew that the kid was fast, really fast. That’s why he was still standing before her. That didn’t mean Terry didn’t learn his lesson.

“I’m looking for Mr. Le Nell, have you seen him?” she said. The boy gaped for a moment before answering.

“He’s outside. Training area…outside level 5…”

“That will do…” she said, and she vanished. After a few minutes, she found him. Reappearing just a few feet away from him, she smiled. “Tavish.” she said briskly, “Anything new on the agenda today?” She said taking out an attendance sheet and a list student files. They were all neatly organized alphabetically. “Hope there won’t be any trouble with Gendou today…?”

“Anything new on the agenda today?” Diane was on time for class like usual, but this didn't make anything better for her grades half the time. She was the kind of student that tried TOO hard to impress her teachers, but Tavish didn't really care. She was t a level that made her a senior and her odd abilities made her fun to teach.

In any manner, Tavish turned to her and gave her a stare. "Yes there is something new on the agenda, there usually is, but a lot of the students don;t seem to want to try to get anywhere in this class. As for Gendou, I see no real reason to worry about him, he can't do much that can't be dealt with."

The time was ticking down, but now it didn't mean anything to Tavish. class started in less than three minutes and only a few of the students were walking into the class training area. There was one junior whom had a very well developed affinity for the elemental properties of water and light, but she was lazy so it was amazing that she was as good as she was.

"I just made it Professor Le Nell, I never am late to class."

Charlie picked up the pace. Class was about to start soon and no less, it was a class taught by Tavish Nell. The boy had a certain respect for the teacher, but at times found him and his methods to be stupid. He revered most authority figures, however it was hard to do that with Professor Nell. The boy checked his watch noticing he had three minutes left to spare. His heartbeat increased as he focused himself in prayer. In a small moment, time around him slowed to a standstill. Charlie hurried off to the outdoor area. Upon arrival, he came out of time a exhausted more than usual due to having to really force it. He noticed Diane was there speaking with Tavish.

"Morning," he greeted Mr. Nell and Diane.

Tavish ignored the outer greeting from Charlie, already sensing he was coming into the area before hand. It was just a notion of Tavish to go beyond a lot of the students out appearances, especially those with fake attitudes. He knew very well that Charlie had disdain for him, but it was just tough shit that he'd have to deal with.

"Yes; Morning Charles. I see that you still haven't learned anything from the last session we had, but its perfectly fine. I find that these days as long as you can make an effort to at least show something you will end up doing well."

He spoke inside Charlie's head. "And you know damn well what I mean."

This was one of the few times Delphine was glad she jogged every morning. With only a few minutes to make it to class she was sprinting at her full speed toward the class. Delphine came running around the bend, and slid in right next to Tavish, her hair pulling backwards on her head to keep her from hitting the teacher.

"Sorry I'm a minute late...I didn't mean to...my alarm...I...I...I will go wait by the others." Delphine said feeling Tavish's eyes digging a hole into the top of her head.

Walking over to the other's the recognized them all, but didn't talk to any of them. She was all around their age, but was still a Freshman coming into her power late. A lot of them were so advanced it scared her.

Diane surveyed the incoming students while listening to Tavish speak. Diane had never had any extended interaction with Gendou, but she did know that he had a habit of annoying Tavish beyond the ability for words to describe. It was amusing to see her mentor getting so worked up over the whole situation. Especially when one was a fussy as Tavish Le Nell. Diane smiled and went back to paying attention to the students. In the distance, she could see the blur that was Terry Finnegan making it's way towards the training grounds. Diane admired his ability. It was untrained and yet, already formidable. Superhuman speed wasn't something to be underestimated.

The class was minutes from commencement and some last minute stragglers were beginning to show up. A boy named Charlie passed by and greeted her and Tavish. Tavish didn't seem to think much of this kid, but Diane gave Charlie a small nod and a smile before turning her attention to another new arrival. A girl, probably Diane's age had just arrived on the grounds. The poor girl seemed a tad bit daunted by some of the other students. Diane couldn't blame her. From what she'd heard, this girl, Delphine, was a newbie and Diane remembered perfectly how it felt to be a newbie at Eos. The old Diane would have gone up to the girl and comforted her; giving her words of encouragement, telling her that none of these people were as scary as they seemed. Such an action would contradict her image however, so she ignored the impulse.

Instead she simply looked at Tavish. "Well, when are we getting started?" she said putting her files down next to a large tree. It was lucky that today she was wearing a long dress suit and short heels. When she needed to do any extended actions in classes, she usually just sported a skirt or dress and a black tank top. She normally just tossed aside her suit jacket and heels if they were too high.

Elinour laughed softly to himself as he jogged quickly towards class.

While he was rarely late, there did come certain instances where he would get so caught up in a song or piece of music that he would not notice the time flying by... or the fact that he was late. But thankfully he had caught himself this time. One of the other students had bumped into him randomly while he was in that daze and he came back to earth.

But no harm done. First class was with Travish on the field. Fortunately he had wandered near that area and took only a few minutes to get there. But he was still one of the later students. A stain on his near impeccable record. Oh well, no one was perfect.

He waved in a friendly manner towards Travish as he neared, coming from an obscure corner of the outdoor area, not from the usual entrance most other students used. He had accidentally wandered around the end of the 'gym'.

While he was not a big fan of Travish, he did not dislike him either. He respected him for his power and manner, but realized that friendly interaction was just not something you attempted with him. Well, as long as he maintained control of his powers, he would be fine.

With a soft sigh, he finally got to where all the other students where standing. Elinour lowered and turned off his headphones and greeted Travish.
"So, what's on the schedule today?"

Melanie was going to be late, that much she already knew the real question was how much she was going to be late by. She has gotten up a bit late that morning since she had spent the night trying to catch up on her homework not to mention she didn't like mornings anyways, she hurried off in the direction of her first class which just happened to be taught by Tavish whom she was sure would not be pleased if she was late, heck he wasn't usually pleased if anyone was late she just hoped that she wasn't going to be the last one to arrive to the class.

Oh great just great by the looks of things I may actually be the last one here! She thought to herself upon arriving and yet she could see that there were actually some students that were not there, she wasn't sure how many had this class but she hoped that it would be at least one more.

"Hey soory I'm a little late I was trying to finish up my homework." She said a little out of breath from her run to get to the class, she didn't like running but it was neccesary in some cases like now.

"Hmmm." it was really all Tavish said as numerous students arrived for the class, some of them late and some of them not. It really wasn't that important at the time. "Anyway, today we will more or less be continuing our segment from several weeks ago that I told you all to keep in mind for when the time came."

Tavish paced backed and forth a few times, apparently zeroing in on a few of the students whom he had special plans for during this session. As he went to add more to his first retort, Melanie arrived....."Hey soory I'm a little late I was trying to finish up my homework."

"NO EXCUSES!!! This is the fifth time you have been late in the past 3 weeks!!!" Tavish glared at her and the Helio mark on his forehead glowed before he stared at her. "I think we will now use you as the first part of this lesson on paying close attention and being mindful of your surroundings Melanie."

The ground rumbled just a bit, but that was only because the grass had began to grow at such a rapid rate that the earth was having a hard time keeping up with the energy that coursed through it. "So here it is. This is more of a lesson on how you process things than something that might get you hurt, though it is completely possible that you will anyway. Based on what you already have been told, all you guys need to do is make me touch the the ground more than once.'

He paused and turned to Diane, and then Melanie. "However, none of you can leave the ground completely, or you have to sit out and watch from the alcove over there. Be mindful of your surroundings as I have been telling you these past few weeks and remember what you just might know about me."

With that, small bubbles of what appeared to be dirt and grime started moving around the students, that and they were now feeling immense levels of fear, because Tavish was just tampering with their minds so that their bodies felt complete and utter horror.

Gendou casually walked toward the class, his hands placed in his pockets and a calm look on his face. While most students would now be hurrying to their classes and praying to God to protect them if their teacher was Tavish, Gendou wasn't. Why should he? He had already proven himself to be the top student there and had even surpassed the majority of the staff. Hell, probably the only person he couldn't take on (in a fair fight, that is) is that old codger principle of theirs. The guy didn't look like much and was rather weird, but damn was he one hell of a fighter. Gendou had tried taking him on a few times and, like all of the others who were brave and/or stupid enough to take him on, learned that he was definitely a strong one the hard way. He had definitely earned the title of 'Principle'.

As Gendou continued his calm stride, not concerned with his attendance, but curious at today's 'activities', he pulled his right hand from his pocket along with a small rose, which he had obtained during his little detour to the garden. A small smile appeared on his face as he admired the small flower that he meticulously held between his thumb and index finger, making sure not to prick himself. Gendou lifted the flower to his nose and took in a deep breath, pulling the scent of the flower into his nose. As he lowered the flower from his nose, he arrived at the class.

"Hey, Tavish," Gendou calmly said, glancing at his 'teacher' from the corner of his eyes. Teacher. The very thought of it made Gendou want to burst into laughter. He hardly considered Tavish a teacher, considering the two had gone through the school together and were basically rivals. He had just happened to have gone through the change before Gendou, something which he blames on a third affinity suddenly popping out of nowhere. "Sorry I'm late, I just decided to stop and smell the flowers."

Gendou noticed the small bubbles of dirt moving around the students and figured Tavish had already messed with their minds. He also figured he would soon be joining them. That, or Tavish had something else in store for Gendou. Gendou hoped he did. From what he saw right now, this would be too easy and not something Gendou would call 'fun'. After taking another scan of the students, he noticed someone of interests was not there.

"I see Ursula is still out sick... What a shame. She's going to miss out on all the fun."
