In 1972, a scale of measurement was established for alien encounters. When a UFO is sighted, it is called an encounter of the first kind. When evidence is collected, it is known as an encounter of the second kind. When contact is made with extraterrestrials, it is the third kind. The next level, abduction, is the fourth kind. This encounter has been the most difficult to document...until now.

Structured unlike any film before it, The Fourth Kind is a provocative thriller set in modern-day Nome, Alaska, where—mysteriously since the 1960s—a disproportionate number of the population has been reported missing every year. Despite multiple FBI investigations of the region, the truth has never been discovered.

Here in this remote region, psychologist Dr. Abigail Tyler (Milla Jovovich) began videotaping sessions with traumatized patients and unwittingly discovered some of the most disturbing evidence of alien abduction ever documented.

Using never-before-seen archival footage that is integrated into the film, "The Fourth Kind" exposes the terrified revelations of multiple witnesses. Their accounts of being visited by alien figures all share disturbingly identical details, the validity of which is investigated throughout the film.
Synopsis

At first glance, I thought it was gonna be another movie about hauntings.
Pretty interesting that it is based on true stories, I'm sure they are highly exaggerated though.

i think it's gonna be pretty awesome. the commercial i saw for it before i watched paranormal activity freaked me out a bit.

It's based on an epidemic of missing people in an Alaskan town.... most of which have been attributed to alcoholism (the town has a high level).

Crimson Crashing, those are viral marketing websites designed for the film. They're kind of pushing the envelope since there isn't any disclaimer.

When this movie says it's based on real events, "real" is in the broadest sense of the word. Actually, just a flat out lie.

Still, I've actually been interested in this movie since I saw the preview on Hulu a couple months back and have been keeping tabs on it. Looking forward to it. Though, to be honest, I get the feeling that this is one of those movies where you end up being way more impressed by the trailer.

Aliens creep me the hell out. they are the things that scare me the most. i dont know what to beleive, but i do beleive they exist

Saw 6..........well give us your review when you do. In any case, i saw this all posted up on youtube and decided to take a look. The whole owl bit is just, LOL. I do however find alien abduction, etc. particularly interesting so i'm up to getting a first glance at this. Alaska needs foil caps...

I think it relates to aliens eye wise. Owls have these huge eyes, and a stereo typical alien is drawn/made with huge similar eyes. So i'm guessing that's the connection. We won't know for sure until the movie comes out.

This looks like it will be a blast to see. Love these types of movies. Kind of makes me want to watch Fire in the Sky.
