The standard form of an equation for a line is, indeed, y = mx + b, with b as a constant, so you're good here, too.

As for solving x for a given y-value, you just need to "plug in" the values and solve for x. For instance, let's say for the equation y = 2x - 1, find x when y = 5.

First off, substitute 5 for y:

5 = 2x - 1.

Next, add 1 to both sides to get 2x by itself (remember, what you do to one side, you do to the other because both sides are equal. Just add the opposite of -1 [1] to cancel it out on one side.)

6 = 2x.

Now divide both sides by 2 to get x by itself.

3 = x.

And there you go! We just solved x for a given y-value! :D We can check our answer by substituting x for 3 in the original equation.

y = 2(3) - 1
y = 6 - 1
y = 5.

y was originally 5 when we substituted it, so the answer checks.

Now, let's try it yourself. With the given value y = 10, solve for x in the equation y = 3x + 5.

Just follow the same process, and you will be fine. ;)

at first i DIDN'T believe him but afterwards I really did
and he was the first math lover in my life lol

U know the methods to memorize and solve the calculations of Maths r really hard!
But if u consider Biology's long theories, they r pretty much better than Maths

U r right! U know the worst subject of my whole life is Maths!
I always get low grades or percentages in it lol
