My collection consists almost intirely of the complete Hellboy works, Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, and Bone, in it's entirity.

I was never big on collecting American comics. I went through a huge manga binge like two years ago, but that ended up being way too expensive to indulge. So, now I read everything online, with the occasional Hellboy or BRPD collection to keep myself occupied .__.

Odd thing happened today. I decided to go to the local grocery store (Jewel Osco) to see what kind of selection of comic books they had, right? (Pretty much just infinity+ issues of X-Men and various others) And I decided to pick up JLA Classified numbers 33, 34, and 35. The sad thing was, they didn't have 36. :< (Imma just go to the local comic store to pick that one up.)

So at the self checkout aisle, I scan 33 and 34, and it charges me $0.02 each. #35, $2.25. And when the self-checkout aisle supervisor comes up to confirm my purchase, she pretty much just pressed the buttan and was all "lol k" like. So I pretty much just saved $7 worth of 3 comics because of Jewel's faulty self-checkout database.

Also, the cover to 33 has Rubber Band Man on the sides and his facial expression makes me go "lolwtf"

So uh, I decided to confer with my last year's science teacher (who is quite the comic book enthusiast if i do say so myself) and read his copies of Batman: Year One, The Dark Knight Returns, and Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters.

I personally liked Miller's interpretations of said characters, especially Clark Kent, who in the story's war setting used his powers to essentially blow up tanks, cruisers, etc, all of which would occur somewhat randomly and give us the sense that he really is THE superbeing, then ultimately lost to Batman and Ollie Queen in the end.

As for The Longbow Hunters, I was particularly surprised at how amazingly dark it was in terms of theme, and what it was doing on my teacher's back shelf for everyone to read. (It was also signed by Mike Grell) Otherwise, although a short series, It was a very well-written and well-illustrated one.

I also picked up Green Lantern: Rebirth and more 2 cent issues of JLA: Classified.

I've heard Bone is really good and that the omnibus is f**king massive. I'm going to pick up Jeff Smith's Shazam! And the Monster Society of Evil in hardcover when it comes out. I really like his art.
And as for Walking Dead, Robert Kirkman's a good writer. Haven't read the book myself, but I know people who like it and Invincible.

Mmm, I'll see if I have the money to pick it up next time I'm in the comic shop. I know there's a copy that's been lyng about for a couple of weeks. If you like it, try and track down the All-Star Batman & Robin the Boy Wonder issues. Batman: Year One, All-Star Batman, Dark Knight Returns and Dark Knight Strikes Again all take place within the same continuity (Miller's Dark Knight universe).

Longbow Hunters along with Quiver and Archer's Quest have been the books I've most wanted to get for a long, long time. I love Ollie. As far out as the characters concept seems, he's the one I can picture the most existing in the real world. I can't wait for Green Arrow: Year One soon.

Read Rebirth. Now. gogogogogogo. Kickass Kyle, Hal and Ollie moments.

Last week I bought $80(AUD) worth of comics. I got it for half price though since I worked Thursday night and I got paid in comics. Works out for the better for me. Got 52 #52 and the first two issues of Countdown. Looking forward to how that turns out. And I really want the next couple of issues of Amazing Spider-Man and Superman. I'm loving Back in Black and the Camelot Falls storyline. And too bad the next Green Arrow issue is the last one. ='(

It was grand. Also, apparently the local store sells the actual first edition prints of the series when it first came out in 2004 for $15 USD an issue. ($15 x 5 = $75 for the whole set) Quite a find, but I only had $25 on me. Also, Sinestro Corps Special. Do want.

I need to pick up Infinite Crisis and those 52 paperback volumes, ja. I could probably try snagging whatever issues they have left, though. And Countdown. I'm not letting this one pass. There's also Green Lantern: Year One. Oh man, is this month going to be hectic.

That's a a really good price. Rebirth sold out so they could be more expensive. But oh yes, looking forward to Sinestro Corps. Having you been reading the Green Lantern ongoing? Nice Sinestro Corps back ups with the main story coming either in the next issue or after the next arc. I think it's the former, though.

Infinite Crisis is a must. 52 in trade is good, but it's nothing crucial to the DCU unless you read the Booster Gold parts. It's just a really nice character series, but I would recommend it. And yes, you really need to get Countdown. Picked up issues #49 and #48 tonight. Can't wait for Mary Marvel's transformation next issue. Ooh, and I also got a post of #51's cover, that'll be going up tonight.

Mmm, don't know if I'll pick up Countdown to Adventure. Might get the Horsemen one shot and the Black Adam series if I hear good things. Jimmy's good, but I'm not sure 'bout the Silver Age vibes. I like him more in Busiek's Superman. I like Jason Todd in Countdown, and looking forward for more Donna Troy and Kyle (I'm not sure what he is anymore. He's not a Green Lantern, is he? It's just Ion now?).

I'm writing this from my the computer at my comic book store. I'm working right now but no one's come in for a while. Got an hour to go. Picked up a shitload tonight.
Captian America, Green Lantern (Got my hands on 13, it was the one issue I was missing from the OYL arc), Teen Titans, Amazons Attack, JSA, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Action Comics and the Silver Surfer mini. Looked good so I thought I'd get it.
I'll let you know when I read it.

Yeah, The story of Karu-Sil intriuged me the most.

"oh hey a girl"

*KLONK*

But just from issue 19 and 20 on me, though. They have all the other issues and when I actually have some cash on me I'll go out and buy them.

I took the pleasure of getting every issue of Countdown to date, including #47 that came out yesterday. Because I'm just a tenderfoot and not all that savvy with the DCU, I was surprised of Jason Todd's revival. I even took the liberty of compiling a list of the stuff that interests me coming out this summer, including Green Arrow: Year One and the 666th issues of Batman and Superman. I also discovered that the local store has some old issues of 52 from a year ago, and what I believe to be the entire Infinite Crisis collection.

The Hal Jordan: Wanted arc sets up part of the Sinestro Corps, so get #14 to #17 if you can find them.

Going to pick up Countdown #47 today. As well as Flash #13. That's a really good right now if you're interested.
Can't wait for Green Arrow: Year One. The Batman 666th issue is part of an arc, so try and track down #664 and #665.
Infinite Crisis is a must. Action is good, but Johns is just really good at character moments. That's why Teen Titans and JSA is so good.

I finally obtained the comics Z-press forgot to distribute to Belguim. So that's one more spidey and x-men I can add.

I recently picked up the XIII series. Do they remain as good or do they become worse?

Actually, I don't think it is. I didn't get my copy, and it isn't coming up on my Comic Collector list, and no one over at SuperHero Hype is discussing it. According to Newsarama's latest report, #13 comes out next week and is the final issue of Fastest Man Alive. Then we get All Flash #1 with a bunch of artists and Mark Waid writing, who then returns to writing full time on the Flash as they resume the numbering on last volume. #231? Daniel Acuna will be doing art.

This kinda disappoints me because I was really enjoying Guggenheim's book and I'm a fan of Bart. Oh well. Waid is great and I just hope that he manages to keep Bart on the forefront. I'm guessing we're also looking at the return of Wally and Barry.

In Marvel news now, Spectacular and Friendly Neighbour-hood Spider-Man have been cancelled. Instead, we'll be getting Amazing Spider-Man 3 times a month. No creative teams have been announced, but I believe there's a rotating roster.
Good marketing choice and it's a way to keep things in continuity, but c'mon! This is Marvel's way of saying it's all or none when it comes to Spider-Man. If you want to read Spider-Man, there's only Amazing, coming out three times a month. That's a dent in the wallet. Creative teams had better be good.

Countdown is terrible. I don't give a shit about any of the characters. 52 had much better pacing. I'm a fan of DC but right now, they think a good story consist of killing as many characters as they can. "The History of the Multiverse" is just a waste of space.
On another note, Kyle hasn't appeared yet. Wasn't he slated to be one of the original characters?

As for Flash, I would have enjoyed it alot more if Waid did the entire thing. The launch sucked. The problem with Bart is that he replaced Wally way too soon.

I mean, Barry died a hero but Wally just kind of disappeared into who knows what which made it harder to take Bart seriously because you knew Wally could just return at any minute.

I'm actually finding myself reading more of Marvel recently. World War Hulk, Nova, New Avengers (except issue 31's ending was stupid)
