So, uh, anyone else hold the guy in a huge deal of respect, just because he's turned down every offer to merchandise? :0

I love Calvin and Hobbes.
I have three of the books. Probably will end up reading them all, now that this thread has reminded me of it....

Absolutely. He had to go through some hard battles for that as well.

The man is a genius and not a sellout...sounds like an awesome guy.

I love Calvin and Hobbes. I have all of the books, and, well, it is one of my favorite comic strips ever, only losing to The Far Side.

Calvin and Hobbes are hysterical! Most comics nowadays make me grin at least, but Calvin and Hobbes had me laughing out loud so many times!

I wish I had some Calvin and Hobbes merchandise, but I respect the reasons that Bill Watterson has for not selling out. It's good that he stuck by his principles.

Watterson is my hero. He not only made me laugh but he did it intellectually making excellent points or wonderful commentaries every time. And unlike Family Guy I feel good about being amused as opposed to Damn it the fart joke never stops being funny or perhaps AHAHAHAHAH he said poopy

Yeah, that's back when humor was actually something people strive for instead of slapping boring puns and toilet humor and calling it fresh material >_> too many people do that nowadays. It's sad really.

You know, I can't decide if Watterson truly meant for this to be funny, or if depicting the life of a siix year old is inherently silly. A lot of the time, I feel like I'm living through whatever Calvin is going through, like I was watching a real life.

Only other time I get this drawn into something is when I listen to some good music.
