Default Batman: Gotham Knight

To bridge the gap between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, the DC Animated Universe has created a DVD anthology due out this summer/winter that fills us in with six tales all done in an anime style, directed by anime directors with Bruce Timm as project lead.

Deadshot, Scarecrow and Killer Croc have been revealed to be villians within these stories and the sneak peek leads me to believe that Man-Bat will be in there, too.

So Gotham Knight has been released.

It's not a straight flowing narrative. It's six short stories, all done in differant anime styles by three differant Japanese production houses. So whether this is anime or western animation is heavily debatable, since by most definations this is actually anime.
I have to say, that Batman definately suits the anime style and it'd be great to actually see a full length feature in anime.

The stories are pretty good. It doesn't accumulate to a great DVD but they're really quite decent stories. My favourite would probably be David Goyer's In Darkness Dwells. David Goyer co-wrote the stories for Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, so of course his story translates better.

Alan Burnett's Deadshot, Brian Azzarello's Working Through Pain and Greg Rucka's Crossfire, again are all good. The only weak ones being Josh Olsen's Have I Got A Story For You and Jordan Goldberg's Field Test.

Kevin Conroy also comes back to voice Batman, which is always great.

This will keep anyone entertained until The Dark Knight is released.

The last three stories were my fav. Especially the fourth and sixth; they were animated by Madhouse (Death Note, Devil May Cry, Claymore, etc). The fifth was amazing too, as it shows that Batman is a human like everyone else.

Those were pretty good. I'd have to say my favorite was In Darkness Dwells as well. I just loved the feel of it more so than the others. Not that they were bad, I'd definitely recommend picking this up to anyone out there, whether you're an old die-hard fan like some of us or just getting into it (like my little brother, lol).

Speaking of which, the big theatre in Little Rock here in AR is showing The Dark Knight early to about 600 fans (not much early, just like a day I think) and I get to go see it! I'm so excited. I really think The Dark Knight will take it for Comic Book Movies this year.
