Yeah I must have missed that as symbolism =D but that might be because I don't see the need to link sex into everything.

I never read the book but I watched the old B&W movie. the kyrie song won't leave me brain.

I like the version my choir sang better.

but I hated the choirs resoning for leading them the leader kid in the movie was like: "You can't sing. you hav eno right to lead these people" or something like that

Or maybe the book implies that they skewered the pig up the ass in order for emotional emphasis to drive home the point of what they were doing and to deepen the scene .-.

It's kind of gross to think of a bunch of boys taking turns having sex with a dead pig.

...O_O; thankyou for that delightful thought Neo,

However that is exactly my point, it isn't about sex, it is about the brutality and violence that they descend into, and also shows the immaturity that is still present in them.

i find it completely disturbing how Ralph and Piggy are the only ones who care that they murdered Simon...but i guess they all went insane at some point.

I wonder if I was the only one that really liked Ralph.

He was an awesome character throughout the whole novel.

Or they just didn't care about Simon, and didn't grasp what it is to be dead. . .that it wasn't a game, at least, not until the very end.

One way that it showed about their immaturity was as they were skewering the pig, they were all laughing and saying. "Right up 'er ass!" And just finding it hilarious. . .

Granted, I laughed at a similar thing with Kevin Paraira. . .still. . .

You're not. Ralph was my favorite character. He was one of the more mature kids out of the bunch, which is why he's my favorite.

Anyway, I read this book in the middle of the school year and it's one of my favorite books now. I love the symbolic meanings of it and the whole way it plays out.

I would have to agree, but then Ralph represents the voice of reason. The others descended completely into a tribe like state, mind of the masses I guess, panic taking over.

I agree :3

To them it was a game, they were little boys playing at being grownups. The way that they completely dissolve into those little boys again at the end is a reflection of that I think. The game is over and reality sets in.

Well, the easiest thing to see, IMO, is the fact that this is how everyone played out:

Ralph: The inner conflict, at one point he's following the path of good intentions, but also the path of evil, he seems to be the most human out of all of them.

Piggy: The good side of the novel, always trying to do the best towards everyone

God. . .can't remember the little red-headed bastard's name: Evil, the reason why, mostly, that everyone was thrown into anarchy.

It can go a LOT deeper than that, but that's just the surface of it all.

simon and ralph were my faves!
they were the only decent charcaters in the book, and the fact that Simon was murdered by everyone, made me very sad! but that whole passage describing his death is probably one of the best in the book

i wish they had some sort of epilogue, i want to know what happened to Jack. He reminds me of a young british serial killer. Like a mini Hannibal...i didnt like him

i always loved when Piggy was whining about his specs. at least Ralph was nice to him
p.s. stavros, the red head bastard is Jack

You weren't supposed to like him.

And an epilogue would dilute the message that Golding was trying to get across.

See I disagree that piggy was the good side, I found him to be an annoying little retard at times, he was very selfish and full of his own importance, for sure he was alligned with Ralph and so on the SIDE of good (for lack of a better phrase) but he himself wasn't neccessarily good.

Simon represented religion IMO not Jack, Jack represented the side of society that panics and falls to chaos if left to it's own devices.

Technically speaking all of the characters were brilliant, the fact that people loathe Jack so much only shows what a well developed character he was xD He might not have been honourable but you can't deny he wasn't a fantastic character for the plot.

An epilogue would have ruined it IMO, besides, I like the way it is left for the reader to determine the fate of the boys in their own mind.

My english teacher said that was to represent rape, because it was a mother pig, and so it intensified the whole theme of merciless violence. ...yuck.

When I re-read this.... Probably this weekend... I'll keep this post in mind when I read that part and I'll see if I agree with it.
