I read it a couple years back because some kid told me there was cannibalism in it, like, they ate each other.

I was like "wttffff".

anyways, I still really liked it.
How they gradually lose their innocence.
All they symbolism was lost on me because I was like, 12 when I read it.
I should reread it.

Has anyone wondered what if the Lord of the Flies boys were girls? I know some things would be different but it would generally the same result however I have a hard time picturing girls alone on the island and falling into savagery. I guess it is due to the fact that I what too many action movies and anime where it always the guys that are the most aggressive and I guess I pretty much fell into that stereotype that girls are generally more senstive and softer. I am not saying that girls actually like that but I have a hard time picturing girls behaving that way unless somebody else could because I don't really know if that can be possible.

really now *anime sweatdrop* I would think if it were an island of girls it would fall apart even faster....

I liked the book. I was very disappointed in the movie...but the book was excellent.

Alright, everyone has to go and say how awesome the book was. Well, I'm going to go against the norm and say I despise that book. That's it. I have no reason. I adore books. I love reading. But Lord of the Flies can burn along with Hawthorne's Scarlet Letter, and Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

It's really funny, actually. Those are the books my roommate likes and I love the books she hated. Haha. I found that bit of information amusing.

I don't think a single person in our English class got LOTF. I did a bit, but I don't think people our age should be reading stuff that people 5 years older than us are reading.

Default Lord of the Flies [lit]

I finished this today, and I have to say that it was excellent.

Anyone else read it, for school or anything?

I swear I saw this thread already o.o I'll look in a second.

Anywayz, yes I have read it, several times :3

When I first read it I didn't like it all that much :x I found it to be quite dull in all honesty, though I can say now that it is one of my favourites. The use of symbolism is impressive and I especially love the way that the civilised aspects of human nature (Science in the form of Piggy and Religion in the formof Simon) are completely destroyed when the boys are faced with their ordeal on the island.

Definitely a book that I would recommend everyone read at least once xD even if you decided afterwards that you hated it.

Edit: found it >.> and lol I said virtually the same identical thing in that one D:

Even if you don't appreciate the symbolism, [which was f*cking brilliant] you can appreciate it just for the story. It definitely has that thrill to it.

Whether a larger version or not is debatable :3 I would have to say that

Lord of the Flies > Lost

Mainly because of the ideas from the time that the book was written in and the fact that it doesn't rely on a cast of beautiful creatures to keep people interested.

Lost and Lord of the Flies are very very different. Similar human themes to be sure, but the overarching story and moral of the story for the most part seem to be very different. There are a few similarities, but what story of survivors living on and island and making their own community wouldn't be similar?
Lost has since branched out away from Lord of the Flies after the first season :3

Both are good :3 read Lord of the Flies and watch Lost.

Most definitely, even at face value the story is one that is quite gripping and in many ways very sad.

It will make you think whether you want it to or not and will have some form of imapct on the majority of readers for many years to come.

I personally was freaked out by the scene
