Just heard The Catylst and well......I did not like it. At all.
I think the correct response is: What the fcuk?
It- where did the - awesome drumming and music go? where? What did you do with it? ;_____; I mean, I'm halfway through the song, and I'm hearing all the same fcuking instruments. Same fcuking one. and it's so fcuking boring. K, at the end they have a little drumming and more instruments, but I wouldn't notice it if I wasn't looking for it. So like, ug, bland. >____>
Get some nice music to match your nice vocals, dammit.
And the music video itself is weird as fcuk as well.

Its the diddlyin internet, I can say whatever I want cant I?
Want a reason? The entire album sounds like an experiment. Too many sound bites and just pure noise that doesnt seem to make any sense. None of the track sound complete to me; instead they just felt like incomplete ideas that failed to develop as full songs. There's one that reminded me of some random video on youtube where the uploader repeats a phrase over and over again with different pitches for the lols. All I can think was "wtf".
I never said I didnt like their new direction, so Im wondering why you even brought it up. New direction or not, it's not good.
Is that what you really think? I can spot all the recycled ideas from that album in this new one. It's different from M2M

I mean don't get me wrong Linkin Park is a great band but that video and song was like not good at all.
... M2M, I was just about to ask why we were talking about a bubblegum (?) pop group here. Minutes to midnight. lmfao.
And yea, Midget they're... well they were quite excellent. But now, ug. I have to ask what happened. D: Fame blow away a lot of their issues that their songs were based on? *shrugs*

Ironic, I was just listening to "Somewhere I Belong" when I saw this thread.
So, I'm going to go listen to Catalyst and see what all the hubub is about
Gross man
They should go back to the Meteora days

Don't know why everybody's complaining about how "bad" and "terrible" LP's new song is. It's not as bad as you all make it seem to be. Sure, if your one of those people who hate techno, and love rock, then I can completely understand where your coming from, but change will never hurt anyone, and especially not Linkin Park.
WEll, that's how I feel. Their new song is good imo.

No. At least not without supporting your reasoning (or being prepared to do so), as you did with the following...Originally Posted by Ip Man
The songs were meant to connect to one another and create a complete album. It's a Concept Album, things like that happen. Except for "The Messenger"... I didn't understand why that one was on there. It should have ended with "The Catalyst". But anyway, listening through the album all the way through takes away any sense of incompletion and paints a larger portrait. I'd compare it to Nine Inch Nails' Year Zero. That was a great concept album, and while A Thousand Suns isn't Reznor-quality work by any means, it's still a great album.Originally Posted by Ip Man

Recycled ideas can still be used in an original way. Most bands use the same or similar ideas from older albums in making their new ones. On that note though, there might be a few in there, but not many. It still sounds different from M2M. For every "recycled idea" you can spot (don't see how you spot something on an audio level, so I'll assume you meant hear), I hear a new idea. This was really a bad point to make.Originally Posted by Ip Man

>.> Weren't LP orignally using turntables and stuff. Lulz. And The Catalyst and it's meaning is beast. .__. But ehh my opinion. Just don't be some gross fans and say "EWWW" at something you're not used to. As artist they have the right to change. In fact it would be selling out if they didn't use their ideas because of fans.
I loved all their songs from Hybrid Theory and Meteora. The Jay-Z stuff was also good.
Minutes to Midnight was a bad move for them, but I found some songs on it enjoyable.
A Thousand Suns just sucked though. It was Electronic Rock trash.

Very disturbing/angry/emotional/painful lyrics.
But if that's what they wanted to write about, more power to them.
Hybrid Theory/Meteora LP FTW. The mix of instrumental hip-hop and some really creative synths and beats + guitar + singing + rapping was really innovative for its time, in my opinion.
Fort Minor was awesome.
But Minutes to Midnight and everything after is just utter bullshit.
EDIT: Just listened to Catalyst. WTF is this shit? The same sound throughout the same damn song. Hardly any creative change in sound for the voice or instruments whatsoever. Very pop-ish with a repetitive melody to brainwash people into having shitty music stuck in their heads for hours.
No real rapping by Mike
No synths, no variety. No real character.
It's very boring and plain.
The lyrics are okay; immature political angst as most stupid punk/pop bands nowadays like to whine about, but it's their right to write about whatever they want.
My problem is they don't sound the same and it's a shame.

Another site with info first site has hentai section so I didnt want to post that one.
Hey Hey, Let's go kenka suru, taisetsu na mono PROTECT MY BALLS!

That's not too surprising, really. It's all because of Joe Hahn again, just like it was for Transformers, by him having the Decepticon's logo on his turntables. It's cool, I suppose. I'm just wondering how the imagery is going to sync with the song, though. It'd have to be pretty fast and full-on, I'd say.
Edit: Just finishing listening to the whole album. It was alright until Blackout came along. Shit was total diddlying shit. In general it's a bit disappointing that majority of the album is slower and lacking a lot of the old roots, so I don't know where to stand with it.
