what? ;-; [edit] kay wtf. nothing comes up when I search, but apparently there's a couple others here that I just found going through the pages in the lit section. >_> merge if you feel it's necessary. D: oh yes, everyone groan, a school book. boo hoo. I finished this about an hour ago. my goodness, I think my mind exploded. Huxley is a genius imo. chapters 17 and 18 had to be my absolute favorites, the book starts out so strange and quiet and then develops quickly into this huge collection of thoughts and writing devices; really a masterpiece. I wish I could write like him. :c I also loved all the literary references; John's little Shakespeare obsession motif, the world controllers talking about Cardinal Newman and Maine de Biran. Either I'm crazy or I think I saw a lot of mirroring of Shakespearean works [romeo and juliet with john and lenina] and symbolism [the lighthouse john takes to and huxley's choice to refer to his corpse as a turning compass]. is it even necessary to gush about the plot? :3 /nerd discuss plz. | -HAPPY FUN TIME- | Hated Chapter 18. Thought the ending was lame. I loved Chapters 16 and 17 though. Pretty much the only worthwhile chapters in the entire book. I have a test on this in a few hours. |

| ♥ | I'm still trying to wrap my mind around it, personally. On one hand I think it's like John finally got his human fate, trying to atone, trying to break apart - almost...becoming god [discovering all the "truer-than-truth" enlightenment]? with all those people gawking at him and asking for something they're drawn to - punishment, sin. and then of course, this all just fails once he takes the soma, and he's like fuck this and kills himself lol. soooo we're all human and we have to accept that perhaps. /: and then on the other hand it's sort of a happy ending. those who chose the whole "machinery, medicine, godless" civilization go on with their lives, John does what the Malpais indians said he couldn't [atoning with the whip concept] and then finally gets his freedom. I just wonder - did he kill Lenina? Because then like. ROMEO/JULIET MUCH. how fitting. :D |

| -HAPPY FUN TIME- | I don't think he killed Lenina. There's nothing to really say as much. He just whips her, then cracks and takes soma and has an orgy. (such a contrived ending, imo) |

| Cozza Frenzy | Had to read this for school a few months ago. I was so confused the first few chapters, and did not like them at all. And to add it that, we had to do double entry journals which rammed me in the butt. I loved the last 5 chapters or so though. I thought the ending was solid. It's an interesting read, tohugh. The last paragraph was kinda fucked up though, with all the directions and whatnot. |

| Enigmatic Soldier | My English teacher told me it was like 1984 lite and 1984 made me think a lot...and made me slightly paranoid. I really liked it so I would probably like Brave New World. I'll have to pick it up next time I'm out. |

| ♥ | I think the author was liking his corpse to a compass and turning in the directions to kind of show that he [or his life, etc.] was pointing a direction for the rest of civilization. But iunno. |

I do need to re-read the book without the confusion of doing a fucking double entry journal while reading it. | |
