So, I read this series, consisting of The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass, and finished The Amber Spyglass just last night. This series is so amazing! Gah I love it! I recommend it to everyone (except maybe devout Catholics). Either way, what were you opinions on the books?

Oddly enough, I was never able to get into this series. I made it fifty or so pages into the first before I gave up, it just seemed really dry, and a chore to read. I've heard a lot of people who've said it was excellent though, so maybe I'll pick it up again next time I'm at the library.

Like Pelafina, I picked it up a few years ago, and found it really dry and hard to get into.

About a year ago I picked it up and gave it another shot, and raced through the three books in less than a week.

I read this series, in fifth grade, and highly enjoyed it.

And can you imagine, I'm still christian. Some mothers are incredibly overprotective >.>

I read this series during the semester that I was taking a Milton class. I don't know if I would have enjoyed this series as much as I did if I wasn't very familiar with Paradise Lost. It did seem a little childish at first, which almost made me put it down. Everything comes together in the third book though, and I'm glad I finished reading it.

I love this series. I first read it in middle school and it remains one of my all-time favorite series.

I personally didn't like it that much. The Amber Spyglass was the worst in my opinion. And the ending was really sappy.

i read the golden compass a while ago, and it was an AMAZING book.
loved it all the way through.

then i went to get the second one and my mom said no.
she got caught up in the news/media hype too and thinks it's all wrong.

but whatever, one day i hope to finish the series :D

I liked it. Picked it up when I first got into books. It's a pretty good series, still liked the first one better than the rest.

It's a great series. Reading this makes me want to read it again.
Yeah, the first few chapters of the first book are a bit dry, I suppose. But it really picks up.

I read the first book a few years back. It was alright.

Haven't gotten around to any of the other books yet.
