| saucy pussy | Because a thread for this is pretty much necessary, amirite...? I know it's really lame, but I haven't read it, or anything by Jane Austen yet, just saw the movie. xD We're starting it in school on Monday and a lot of my friends are excited lol. So opinions, anyone? |

| We Wrote Our Names In Blood | I enjoy both the book, and many movies of Pride and Prejudice. Except, the bollywood one. That pissed me up the wall. Jane Austen is a fantastic writer and I enjoy reading all her books. I highly suggest watching the other movies and reading the other books. |

| none of our secrets are physical | I'm not a Jane Austen fan - personally I get quite infuriated with her. But Pride and Prejudice should be an enjoyable, or perhaps interesting read if you're into manners and society. I don't like Elizabeth Bennett at all, which is my main problem, but I do like Mr Darcy. Also, new movie with Keira is pretty bad. However, the BBC 6 hour long adaption is great! |

Rep Power: 1 ![]() Level: EXP: | Ugh, I hate Pride and Prejudice. I've had to read it twice for two different classes. It really gets worse each time (though I was amused by the witty dialogue second time around). There's something about this book that makes me nauseous. Perhaps it is because everyone in it subscribes to that backward notion of marriage as a woman's only means for social mobility. |

Rep Power: 6 ![]() Level: 26 EXP: | ^I agree with you. =] Anywho, I think that was one of my favorite Jane Austen novel. I really liked Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy. I loved the story. At first when I started reading it, I was confused and hated it. So I kept reading it and it turned out to be good. |

Elizabeth Bennett does annoy me to a certain extent. And the small series I enjoyed more. Your meant to like Mr. Darcy, part of his character. And just like Elizabeth, I can only put up with him for a awhile. I really just like the story lines, I find a few characters amusing, others not so much.

Women, especially those in the upper class, would have certainly not been working, and only had limited education. I don't think Jane Austen necessarily does subscribe to that though, in Persuasion the character of Anne Elliot actually protests against a system which allows men all the advantage of education, and thus power.
