Default The Great Gatsby

Oh my God. This book is terrible. There's no action in it whatsoever and it's making me believe that it has no point or purpose. Apparently, it is a classic novel so my class has to write a research paper on it. But I can't even make myself read it. I fall asleep everytime I open the book.

Your thoughts on the book?

I thought it was pretty good.
Nick (or whatever the main character's name is I forgot it ) is gay by the way.
The book never comes out and tells you, but my teacher showed my class a paragraph that almost cofirms it.

It's so uneventful, how can you like it??

And how is he gay? He has a girlfriend throughout the whole story.

I really liked it actually. But I like Fitzgerald in general though, so whatever.

It portrayed the materialism and superficiality of the age; how nothing truly had any substance beneath the riches. The most interesting part of the book is the way the characters interact with each other and analyzing their relationships. Plus, there are a few unexpected plot twists as you approach the end.

It was really depressing though.

I don't know, I'm just the type of person who likes reading.

When he described her in the book he said he was attracted to her "Boyish figure". And this scene
Quote:
Then Mr. Mckee turned and continued on out the door. Taking my hat from the chandelier, I followed.
"Come to lunch someday" he suggested, as we groaned down in the elevator.
"Where?"
"Anywhere"
"Keep you hands off the lever" snapped the elevator boy.
I beg your pardon" said Mr. Mckee with Dignity, "I didn't know I was touching it."
"All right" I agreed, "I'll be happy to"
... I was standing beside his bed and he was sitting up between the sheets clad in his underwear, with a great portfolio in his hands.
He had sex with Mr. Mckee. I didn't notice it until my teacher pointed it out.
Not to mention his obsession with Gatsby.

I get the superficiality of it. But I feel like nothing happens in the story. It's just boring because basically it's about how Nick worships Gatsby (maybe that's what makes him gay....) and how Gatsby loves Daisy. That's it. Nothing happens. I'm only at the part where Tom and Gatsby fight over Daisy and Tom basically wins.

Edit: @WtW- Who is Mr. Mckee and where is that in the book??

I didn't think too highly of it actually, I guess that stems from the fact it was for reading class; oh joy. If I read it on my spare time I would have probably enjoyed it much more.

Exactly my opinion. It kinda jumps from place to place because Nick is such a follower that he just does whatever he's told and goes where ever, with who ever.
