I'm extremely confused, I'm assuming the flip-top is for the newer PS2's, and the slode tool for the older ones, I have an older one and what would I slide??? All it shows on the website are the 2 discs, wheres the slide tool?

Q: What is Swap Magic?
A: Swap Magic is a disc for your PlayStation 2 that allows you to play PS2/PS1 import games and back up games on your console.

Q: Why use Swap Magic instead of modding my console?
A: Unlike a mod-chip to play imports/backups, Swap Magic does not damage your console, nor require you to open it up and destroy its warranty with Sony. It's a very cheap alternative, ranging from $15-40 depending on what you want and need.


Q: So how do I use it?
A: To use Swap Magic, you will need Magic Switch, Slide Tool, Slim Cover, or Flip Top Cover to allow Swap Magic to work. These tools can be sold seperately or in a bundle with your Swap Magic purchase.

You will need EITHER a Magic Switch kit, or Slim Top Cover.

Q: So how do I use this stuff?
A: For Slide Tool:
1.) Insert your Swap Magic disc into the PS2
2.) When it tells you to swap discs (make sure the cover to your PS2 disc tray has been taken off. This can be taken off simply by pulling it off, or in some cases, taking a small screw off the bottom of the disc tray. Don't worry, everything can be replaced or put back on or repaired with super glue if you break anything by accident), take your Slide Tool and slip it inside the crease in your PS2 disc tray, slide it to the right, until you hear a "click" and pull the tray out.
3.) Take out the Swap Magic disc and replace it with your import/backup.
4.) Push the tray back in the console, take the Slide Tool and slide it back in, and push it to the left to lock the tray back in the console.
5.) Boot up your disc, and you can now play your import/backup.

For Slim Top Cover/ Flip Top Cover:
1.) (Make sure the case to your PS2 has been taken off, and replaced with the Slim Top Cover/Flip Top Cover) Insert your Swap Magic disc and wait for the menu to come up.
2.) When it's time to swap discs, open the lid to your Slim Top Cover/Flip Top Cover, and exchange the Swap Magic disc with your import/backup.
3.) Boot up your disc, and now you can play your import/backup.

For Magic Switch:
There are three models currently available, Magic Switch v2, v3, and PRO. Each have different methods of installation.

They all work the same and perform the same, however, some versions have smaller, less tools, more tools, etc. I recommend Magic Switch PRO, because it has less tools and is easier to use.

Q: How do I take off the cover to my PS2 disc tray?

Q: Can't I just buy a modchip and install it myself?
A: Sure, but remember
1.) You'll void your warranty (if you still have one)
2.) Risk damaging your console
3.) Have to know how to do it.
4.) Have to pay more than you would for Swap Magic/tools.

You could of course, take your PS2 to a console mod shop and have them mod it for you. It's quite costly though.

I perfer to use my Action replay disk since I can also type up cheatcodes before I play my Japanesse games. that saved me a hell lot of trouble when I began playing Disgaea 1 and 2.
