Wonderland. How Do I Give a Flower a Potion?

In wonderland, in the Lotus Forest, I can't figure out how to give the flowers potions or elixers. What buttons do I push to "give" potions. If I attempt to use the on-screen menu (bottom left), it simply causes me to throw the potion up, thus using it on myself. How do I give it to the flower instead?

Oh dear. This is stupid.

Anyway, you have to go:
1. Items
2. Potion
3. Go down and select "Flower"
4. Get useless amounts of HP orbs and a hi-potion. Yay.

use options, chose item then potion and chose flower

The first yellow flower you see at the entrance to the Lotus Forest makes you bigger. The others give you junk in plain english...but you go to your items menu on the bottom left of the screen, click potion, and option 'FLOWER' should be the last choice on the list!
