why does riku need to turn back to the darkness? the only reason he did it in the first place was to find kairi and then he got possesed by xehanort's heartless, right? he wasn't even bad in kh2. he was just riku ansem (which was sexi, i must say)

By the way it wasn't maleficent who was trying to control him. Ansem possesed Riku's body. And helped malificent (Which I realy don't understand). After the battle Ansem set Riku free.

In CoM, Riku wasn't evil at all. It was just the replica. And finally in KHII Riku turned his look as Ansem because of Roxas' Defeat. But Riku needed it. Riku wasn't evil at all. He just needs the power of darkness to defeat Xemnas.

Xemnas was saying that because he wanted to psych them out.

Yeah, Malificent was the temptress of sorts, which allowed Riku to give in a little more freely. Ansem probably helped her to feed on her dark heart (which she swore she had control over, but... you know). Ansem didn't set Riku free, though. He merely switched places with him (in that Ansem was now the dominent one, and Riku was trapped)

And so, in conclusion, Xemnas was trying to play on any lingering thoughts or feelings that they might still have for each other.
