Default Euthanasia

Since a thread on this topic was suggested, what are your thought on the subject? Are you for or against?
Also, in what measure should it be legalized, if either you're for or undetermined on it?

like abortion, it depends on the situation. in the example of that italian woman, she specifically said that she did not want to live as a vegetable, and after 5 years it's most likely they won't wake up.

in other situations, like if a person is suffering with no recovery in sight, they shouldn't have to continue living.

I strongly support euthanesia.

Why people are against it, I don't get it.

When people request euthanesia, it's because they suffer from terminal illness or because they are so old and have suffered so much, that they can't find a different way than euthanesia.

How can you take that option away from them? Because they might change their mind? Any country that takes it serious will demand that the doctor has serious discussions with its patient to make sure he/she really wants it. Not only that, when you are determined to die, you're determined. No question about it.

My grandmother did not want euthanesia per se, but she did want to die. She lost 2 of her children and 2 children did not see her as her mother anymore. She saw no meaning to live, she gave up. Instead of euthanesia, she just refused to eat or drink. That was her way.

However, when someone wants euthanesia, but are not allowed to, they will have to go through the same thing as my grandmother, except for them, it's suffering. How humane is that?

I think that it is one's own choice to go out in such a way. I took a book from the Library, "The Right to Die". It looks very interesting, and I can't wait to get into it.

I accept euthanasia as long as the person is willing to make the decesion or if the person is not in the mental capacity to make such a condition and is obviously suffering with no chance of survival.

I support euthenasia. You know, my English teacher was telling us the other day about her husband's grandmother. She lived to be 102 years old, and for about the last two to three years of her life, she was praying every day to die. All of her friends had died decades before she did, some of her children had died, her body was ravaged by more than one disease and it was leading to gangrene. But she just couldn't die.

What a horrible way to die. I bet, by the end, she would have loved the idea of someone taking her pain away.

I've already told my parents that if I become a vegetable, or am in a coma for more than ten years, then I want them to pull the plug. Even if I ever did wake up... what would I wake up to? A world that had passed me by for how many years? My family older, new technologies, perhaps, if I had a husband or children, a family that had moved on? What would be left for me?

I think that what they did with the Italian girl was what she wanted, and if it was what she wanted, then there never should have been a contest. She didn't want to live, and if she had woken up, imagine how hard life would have been. Her muscles had probably all but atrophied by then.

If, for instance, the person wanted you to fight for their life for however long, then you do right by what they wanted. You keep them alive for as long as needed. It's not up to the government to decide who lives and who dies. It's up to the person in question, and their family, who would know more than anyone what that person wanted, if they can't make the decision for themselves.

Im for it i mean why should other people get to judge and make decisions about others people lives i mean it happens enough with alot of other things in are lives no one can be themselves because we all have to save face in front of ther people so we dont piss them to come its just stupid and people who have good "morals" that have never even been in the same shoes as those old or terminal people say its wrong for them to do it because some because some religions say its wrong

I watched an independent film for Spanish on this subject called The Sea Inside.
It's about this guy who can't move, and how he dreams so much about going other places and never can.
It really changed my opinion, and now I'm pretty much all for it. A painless and easy death should be available if someone is suffering too much and chooses it.

In the U.K there was this movie on the other day called "A Short Stay In Switzerland" this was based on euthanasia.
The person "Julie Walters" had a horrible disease which slowly destroyed brain celss causing her to have many problems such as seziures or not been able to control part sof the body, it even dissaloowed you fro mbreathing at some points, as she wanted to die, she knew that euthanasia was seen as illegal in the U.K and other places so she tried suicide but failed as her children would not allow it, so she travveled to switzerland where it was legal to perform this kind of suicide.

I think that the film showed a diffrent insight into euthanasia and how it is for the best in some cases, especially in the case of this poor women.

I think they should be allowed to thrive. (bad pun)

But seriously though? I think more attention should be given to finding ways to cure people. as I believe with enough faith or practice, or even enough fight in you, you can come out of any condition. If we keep focusing on death as a way to release a persons suffering, then many people will never know life.

Bad pun. Bad post. You basically are taking away a person's free will. They want to die to get out of the suffering disease they have? Go right ahead. If you have cancer, chances are pretty high that you will die. No amount of "fight" or "faith" is likely to change that. If you become a vegetable, I doubt you even have the will to change that. Get real.

I'm not saying it to take away their free will. I never said that they shouldn't have it.

I don't SUPPORT euthanasia but I do believe it should be the person's choice.

I just don't think we pay enough attention to ways to prevent or cure these kinds of things. and that we should.
