Default Stem Cell Research - Right or Wrong

Discussion's possibly over. New breakthrough.

Human skin cells now hold the same properties as embryonic stem cells
Also, Bush takes credit for the breakthrough

Well now that human cells can be used, there might not be a point to it, but I still think stem cell research is right.

Also, unless he was one of the scientists working in the labs, he shouldn't be taking credit for anything.

Possibly. Looking at it from a medical point of view, it seems so great and right. But from a religious point of view, it's twisted and wrong.

I know its saving lives but it's what they're actually doing. I don't mean the result of stem cell research, I mean what happens during the research itself. Religiously, it seems unnatural and evil, and, liking to think of myself as a moderately religious person, I don't know where I stand.

No, the problem is the source, which is largely retarded, because the genetic material they use to create embryos for stem cells wouldn't be used to create life anyway. Much of what adults produce is "wasted" and flushed out of the body (periods, wet dreams, and such).

^Nothing's for sure. According to the article, they're not going to just drop research on other forms of stem cells just because they had this one breakthrough.

It's pretty amazing, though.

Personally, I say right on with Stem Cell Research. Honestly, you can't seem to get anything scientific done these days without tripping over someone's religion. :<

...Are you being sincere?

Dude, I think it's safe to say religion's ALWAYS going to exist. I'm not condemning the entire thing, I mean, everything has its good elemnts (on paper) and all that jazz, but I'm not going to pretend that science and religion are completely separated, or that politics and religion are.

Obviously they can all influence each other negatively. XP That's life, I guess.

People use the "potential person" argument to apply to fetuses, therefore giving it personhood and the rights and protections of a person (think when a pregnant women is killed now. person gets charged with 2 murders instead of just 1), and the moment you place personhood upon a fetus, it makes it much easier to apply personhood, and therefore the rights of a person, to an embryo.

Here's a question I pose to people against stem cell research;

What the hell else can you do with an aborted fetus?

You can't use it as a doormat or an alarm clock or an antenna topper or even as catfood, so what are we supposed to do with the things? Without stem cell research we'd just have a giant pile of rotting fetuses and that's not really gonna help the human race.

Here's a question to you.

Do you know the difference between an embryo and a fetus? Last time I checked, a fetus was completely different from an embryo.

I know. That's why I said it was retarded.
