| A FAWKING KEY-TRIKE? STOOPID IDEA!! | Recently, I was scolded by some adult for calling "obese" peoplefat in the vicinity of a very obese person. Race, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, physical disability, etc. are "protected" by United States law (meaning, discriminating or making disparaging remarks on the basis of those "conditions" is frowned upon). Do you think "Fatness" will be covered under the same legal umbrella? If it already is, is "Fatness" considered a "Physical Disability? Most important, will being "Fat" be considered socially acceptable and making "Fat Jokes" be considered in poor taste? Chime in! |

| doesn't play well with others | Are you really that fucking stupid? Obesity is something that people have a great deal of control over unlike other categories of discrimination like race and gender, but it is NOT a conscious choice. |

| Sirius Rex | Having control over it is what makes it a conscious choice. Being fat is completely a person's fault. |

| { No Life/No Death } | You probably should have taken a good look around your vicinity before saying what you said. It was only natural you'd be scolded because that adult is keeping you aware of the respect you should have upon the crowds of ppl around you. I see young adults cuss everyday on the bus, in the vicinity of kids, and really it's all a matter of knowing how to behave in certain areas and situations. It's not like what you said was despicable or anything, you just weren't at mind of the ppl around you who fit under the category of what you were possibly joking about. |

| { No Life/No Death } | uh well......let's put it this way, not everyone is the same, in this case not everyone is inclined to think the way you do. |

| { No Life/No Death } | America isn't the only place that takes things seriously, that in itself is an over exaggeration. It is not a matter of ppl being too emotional to my understanding, It's a matter of showing or having respect, which a lot of ppl lack. |

Rep Power: 7 ![]() Level: 37 EXP: | It's a moral choice on your part. Making fun of anyone in general due to their "Race, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, physical disability, etc." is just not a good moral choice. But people can, if they want. It's called the 1st admendment. (though there are certain exeptions) |

| Member | I wouldn't do it but I don't like the idea of "Don't do it in thier vicinity." If you wouldn't do it when they are there why do it when they're not? It's doing the same thing. I kinda have weight issues in that I'm too skinny, so I usually wouldn't make fun of someone because of that. You don't know if it's genetic or what. But I mean some people are just lazy sure, but others might be trying and still have some fat. I guess I'm just not one to make fun of a person based on thier body....it's just stupid if you ask me. You can legally say it, sure but freedom of speech always was kinda sketchy in what you can say, or can't and what is too much. If you wanna talk about political correctness, I wouldn't see it as a disability. |
