Well, marriage has been around long before Christianity, and there are marriage ceremonies in religions that don't condemn gay marriage and that nothing to do with religion. And I'm not an expert in love, religion, or marriage...but I'm sure that any god would rather see two people of the same sex who love each other marry than two people that just aren't in love at all.

Last time I checked, you can also get married via the state and other, non-Christian religions, though I doubt you were meaning Christian when you said "religious thing." Now me, I'll probably get married via the state, as I'm atheist. Oh, that brings up a question.. if it was really a "religious thing," then how do Atheists marry? I'm pretty sure that not every single one of them goes to a church to be married.

Being that Christianity (for example) considers marriage a Sacrament, they can choose who gets married and who doesn't in their churches. Beyond those walls it's a matter of the state.

I'd say yes because anyone should be able to love whoever they want. If someone is gay there's nothing wrong with them so I think that they should have equal rights.

It is my opinion that the energy some people spend on trying to prevent gay people from getting married would be put to better use stopping douchebags from procreating. Because douchebags just create more douchebags.

So i was greeted by a bunch of Russians who were holding up signs Rejecting the rights of gay marriage. Although my opinions differ, they weren't as threatening as opposed to the Westboro Baptist Church ppl, but the predicament i was in was awkward. Some of those Russians happened to be minor friends from my old highschool....so.....i knew it was pointless to give my opinion on gay marriage rights for the fact that there opinions come from a religious perspective.

The issues of marriage are very complex, especially when dealing with issues of who should and should not be married, and what being married really means. Generally speaking, I think that a lot of confusion and polarization on the issue of gay, lesbian and same sex marriage has come from not looking at the big picture. On marriage and who should be married, I try to take into account all factors including the evolution of marriage, the history of marriage, legal issues, civil rights, heterosexual and homosexual issues, what is normal and where normal matters. The idea is that when people look at the entire scope of issues surrounding marriage that a different perspective is created. I believe that no matter what side of the issue you are on with regards to same sex marriage, that the arguments contained herein will give you something to think about in the end.

And yes, just let them get married if they want. If not, that is infringement on their right to pursue happiness (even though most marriages fail anyway).

I'm sure that legalizing gay marriage won't harm the sanctity of marriage as many anti-HM protesters say but here's my two cents.

If religious institution allows gay marriage, go ahead.

If not, just get a civil union and not fight against the Church. It's old laws and you can't force a religious institution to accept gays.
