It's not impossible, just very long. Current country are the results of hundreds, see thousands years for they unified and became country, same with the planet.

If we had multiple planets at our disposal, unified planets would almost be a certainty -- the structure would be very similar to what it is now, except planets would take the place of individual countries and they would be controlled by single governments.

But on Earth? Never.

Yeah, that's my opinion too. Since we won't have other planets at our disposal for a long while though, if ever for that matter, don't expect there to be unity on Earth.
