Default Military Draft
So, i'm currently writing a research paper on the draft, and thought i'd try to get some opinions of the people at this site. ^_^

What are your feelings towards the military draft? Please include your reasoning within your response. If you are lucky, you might get a PM from me asking if i can quote you in my paper. ^_^

It's a redundant and useless tool. Why send young men who have hopes of a good future into the hell that is called war. The risk of them dying is very high, look at iraq and afghanistan. If the army needs people, they'll have to use people who want to join the army, not force them.

The military should be exclusive to the people who want to do it. Believe it or not, there are plenty of people who'd love to shoot guns/drive tanks/etc. for a living.

There would be public outrage on a tremendous scale if it was ever reinstated. It's a horrible, horrible thing to do, especially when it's used to recruit people for wars that aren't even for the defense of the United States (every war after WW2).

As for me, I'd flee to Canada. Fuck war.

I would definitely support it in the case of defense for the country, but as Ragione stated, that's not probable.

I'd have no problem dying in defense of the country, but only on the soil of the country. I want no part in offensive strikes against other countries, under any circumstances

I don't like it. The draft is more like a game of luck where if they draw you're birthday, you're screwed.

Military Drafts should be used as a last resort--there are plenty of volunteer military personnel, and having an uncle who has long departed to Iraq it's very hard to know that I might never see him again. Like mentioned above, there are those who would gladly lay down their life for their country, and consider those who couldn't possibly bear the scars of bloody battle.

I am personally againist the draft since there are millions of people more than willing to join the military but if we are invaded, a draft should be imposed to bring as many men and women to defend their nation.

Well I DO NOT WANT TO BE SENT OFF. But if war ever came here I still wouldnt join the army. If war came here you know there would be armies of regular people that would just grab their guns at home and run outside and start shooting. That is what I would do. Just grab a gun from our gun locker and run outside with all the other TEXANS forget about the army and my country I am going to protect my home first

The only way you would protect your home for sure would be joining the military.

This. I'm not for the draft, young people shouldn't be forced to join the army. I hope they never pull out my birthday. It should only be people who want to do it.

Well rethinking the way war is today my home would either be missed completly (likely we dont have much here except cement) Or we have no hope. Its not going to be a mass of soldiers running in shooting it will be bombs or bio. We could fight ourselves as a few people or a town if we had something we could actually fight but the way war is now we wont have people to shoot at.
