Default Soul Lessons: What cosmic lesson are we here to learn?
Most religions tell us that we are here to learn a lesson but what lesson are we here to learn anyway. We are told that we are here to fulfill a destiny, purpose or fate that has been planned for us but when it is done, we can no longer be in this world anymore but what exactly are we here to learn? If life has no meaning and it is pointless, what exactly are here to do anyway? What are we here to learn? What cosmic lesson are we supposed to learn?

Good question. From what I understand its the challenges you (choose) to face that will grow you as a person/soul in order to get that 'cosmic' knowledge. Your struggles result as cosmic experience once you've overcome those struggles. You have qualities and things you simply suck at. The secret lies in those things you suck at because that is where you lack the knowledge. Face your fears. Its the basics of being human, really. You need challenges to go on, a meaning to live. What that knowledge is, I cant answer because everyone including me is searching for it.

That entirely contradicts the idea of God and free will.

No religion should teach that you're fated to do something. It makes life even more meaningless than if there's no meaning in the first place.

The meaning of life is very touchy. I personally believe (also reference to Man's Search For Meaning by Viktor Frankl) that man's meaning is relevant to the individual and their capabilities. In short, you form your own destiny. You form your own meaning in this life.

I used to believe in Soul Lessons more as a form of schooling towards becoming a God of your own planet. Which is actually the beliefs of some religions that you actually ascend to a Godlike equivalence and create your own civilization somewhere within the universe.

That was before I found my belief that there is no personified being known as God, and so no possibility of a Soul Lesson.
