Question Suicide, a reasonable option?

Don't worry, this is in Intelligent Discussion for a reason. If I were considering committing suicide, I'd put it in the Help and Support Section.

Prompting recent thought in me, I read through the thread opened up by Proline, saying how he would commit suicide. In the end, several hours after starting it, he did. I always hear about some nut job who's obsessed with a video game or online fad, and ends up coming to near-suicide, sometimes pushed over the edge by the other people on those sites/games/whatever.

Although I have never known Proline, never once spoken to him, it felt near-personal as I read through the posts that Proline wrote, and the reactions of others both before and after his death.

If anyone has considered suicide, or even attempted it, this is a place where you can discuss it, as well as a place where everyone can post their opinions on the matter. Seeking help or ways to avoid it, would probably be better left to the Help and Support Section.

Personally, I have never considered committing suicide, the act in itself. I've only thought of the effects it would have on my friends and family, thus deterring me away from it.

I don't think that suicide is ever a reasonable option, because it is a short-term act, done to solve long-term problems, and you just not being around, let alone taking your own life, has long-term repercussions. With this, that person no longer has to face their problems, but a whole new host of them arise for those left behind to deal with

To be honest....no, it's not.

If not for yourself, then for others.

Suicide is a grotesque way of being a pussy and ditching out on your problems, rather low-brow to be honest.

Yeah okay, it's not the right thing to do. But you have to remember that a person must be very hurt (most likely by what others have said and/or done) to be having those thoughts and feeling that bad about themselves. I feel for these people as I understand what it's like. And after the incident today, it just makes it seem more important to realise and understand what people are feeling and try to help. Situations like this make people more aware and suicide is a big issue. If people need to come onto here to post a problem, they should. Especially if they feel as if they don't know or have any 'real' friends to talk to. Suicide is horrible but many people can't help how they feel.. And besides, advice can come from anywhere and sometimes the best comes from people you don't know personally.

It's a permanent solution to a temporary set of problems. Treatment for depression is advisable. I tried and almost succeeded in committing suicide and afterwards realized that it wasn't the correct solution.

lol @ general society anwsers

There's nothing wrong with suicide. It makes sense; "Hey, life isn't really that much fun. I don't feel like going through another 20+ years of it". You can argue that, at one point in said person's life, something nice and/or worth living for could happen to them. At the same time, you cannot guarantee something like that might happen.

Wanting to kill yourself doesn't mean you're a weak person or anything stupid like that. It's just a matter of opinion, whether a certain individual feels the need to live on or not, and whether they decide to end their life a few years earlier then as should happen or not.

also lol proline's dead

well, it really depends on a lot of things. if your religious, you go to hell, however, if your not religious, it may be a reasonable option, but youd have second thought because of all the people your leaving behind.

No, it's not.

Some people may not notice it, but life's worth living. Also, how would your family and closest friends feel about it (of course you wouldn't care about it anymore, if you killed yourself, but still...)?

No suicide is NEVER the answer since its being a coward and not having the guts to fight your own battles. If you think about so many people would rather have your problems since they might have more bigger problems than yours. Also you might just be in a little phase but hey life goes on.

1) Who the hell would care? You're dead, it's not like you can feel bad about it afterwards

2) Some people don't have anyone who cares about them. I'm sure you think "lol, everyone has someone lol", but that's not true. Some people really are alone, unpleasant as that may be

Running away a convenience store that's being robbed by armed men is cowardice, yet I bet you'd still do it.
