Default Columbus Day? Why celebrate?

What exactly do we celebrate on Columbus Day?

Is it Tyranny, Exploitation, and Racism as Marc Becker suggests in his article: "Columbus Day Protest"

Celebrating the genocide of hundreds of millions of native Americans by the white men.

I hate Columbus. Therefore I do not celebrate Columbus day.
No one does anything but not go to school on Columbus day, and my school doesn't even do that anymore.

So that we get a day off.

What fun!

But yes. Other than that, it is useless.

We don't even get a fucking day off at my school.

Some people are like, "It's Columbus Day".

But nobody at my school gives a shit. Not even the Social Studies teachers.

Because most Americans are stupid. They have no idea what he did. But, he pretty much started it, the Americans finished it, destroying a culture and people that remain rare to find.

Like, my 7th grade teacher explained exactly what he did.

Plus, like every teacher has to comment about how Lief Erickson found America first. Like we haven't been told 50 times.

I've really never understood the holiday either. I mean, sure this guy did open the gates for more exploration and eventual take over of the Americas, but he wasn't the first person there, nor was Lief Erickson. Honeslty, if it was known exactly when the first "native" american stepped foot on America's soil, that should be more of a holiday than Columbus Day.

Then again, I've heard something about a group of people called the "clovis" people and how they were supposedly wiped out 13000 years.. but were in North America before the Native Americans we know today. I wonder..

What are you guys talking about? Christopher Columbus was a pimp! He grew up on the south side of Europe! He's an incarnation of awesomeness in the form of a famous guy!
