Default Lucid Dreaming

Has anyone tried it?
I've tried so far for 4 days and 3 nights, nothing yet...
I think I'm getting closer though- they say it takes about a week to get it if you don't give up, so I'm tryin' really hard to master it down.

If you don't know what Lucid Dreaming is-
It's the ability to be concious during a dream, thus allowing you control whatever you do. As y'all know, anything can happen in a dream, but you only get to view it, not do it. If you master lucid dreaming, you can actually feel awake and control your surroundings.
People have had some GREAT results with it and I really, REALLY want to give it a shot.

What do you guys think?

Well, first you gotta master "Dream Recall", which is the ability to remember dreams.
They say you should write down what happens in them in a journal.

You also gotta be very determined to do it, you can't say "I want to have a lucid dream", you say "I will have a lucid dream." this statement "will" instead of "want to", will actually trigger your brain to improve your chances of having lucid dreams.

Uh, but it takes about a week, or a month to figger it out. But once you do, it gets easy.

Some people have lucid dreams like, 3 times a week. They can fly and do ANYTHING they please in their dreams.

It's like playing a video game, instead of watching a movie, you know?

I only really experienced this, back when I was working on the draft for Clockwork Messiah. I was trying to work out the character of Dorian Solas, and one night I actually fell asleep while I was typing and just went right on brainstorming in my sleep. It was kinda a waste, but it was cool, none the less.

Is there a way to do it without trying? I could have sworn I had some before. It didn't feel like it, but I rarely remember my dreams...and I remembered this one. I don't think I controlled it, but a lot of good stuff happened. hmm.

It sounds very hard and challenging; what I like, actually =D.

I'll probably try it this summer. It sounds cool. I hope you master it.

Wow, I'm amazed at the enthusiasm here.

Most kids at my school were like
"Dan, you're crazy o.o"
or
"Dude, that's impossible, you're brain is ASLEEP when you're dreaming."
or my favorite
"Even if it IS true, who really cares? Doesn't sound very fun."

Idiots =P.

I got an idea.
How about we use this thread to tell each other how our 'journey' is going?
We throw tips and ideas out there and maybe share a few dreams <shrug>

All you need is determination, focus, and alertness, I've heard.

And to answer you, Barx, yes, you usually wake up, because once you're eyes are closed in a Lucid Dream, you'll most likely awaken.

@ Fatal Advent: A few select people are born with Lucid Dreaming, and can always perform it, like my sister Sara. But if you weren't born with it, you gotta learn it. A difficult thing about Lucid dreaming is that the difficulty of it changes with everyone. If you're older, are under a lot of stress, or are extremely logical and believe that only certain things happen, EVER, then your odds of achieving Lucidicy are lowered.

there is a way to do it without dreaming. in the first minute-minute an a half before you wake up you will have a little bit of conciousness then you can do it

if you die in a dream anxiety comes into play and righ before you die you have the most anxiety and thus you jump to awakeness

I thought everyone already had the ability to do this. I've been doing this all my life unintentionally, I'm usually always able to make my own decisions in dreams, although unable to control anything else in the dream.

I don't know if I'm a special case or what though. When I was a child, I had a condition called Night Terrors. My doctor said it was rare, though I've read it can occur in children sometimes who usually grow out of it, and I believe adults can get it too. Within Night Terrors, you are living a dream/nightmare. You are half awake and half asleep, and nothing can wake you up when you're at this stage. Supposedly, most of the time you cannot remember Night Terrors, but I seem to distinctly remember two of them I had. I remember my mother used to carry me to the car and try to drive around to wake me up, it did not help. Quoted from wikipedia:

Anyway, in all, I've never had a problem getting lucid dreams, I thought everyone has them.

Ah, Megaflare, it appears you're one of those special indivisuals who can obtain a Lucid Dream...(Or a Lucid Nightmare, I guess), naturally.

@ Busto: Yes, that is a part of the method known as "MILD". Uh,
Mentally Inducing Lucid Dreams...
I think =P

You set your alarm for about 2 hours before ya wake up. You'll be in good tune with whatever your dream was, so write it all down. Think about the dream, focus, analyze, and obsess it. Imagine yourself in the dream and what you saw and felt, then tell yourself
"I will go back to sleep and continue this dream." (Remember the 'I will' instead of 'I want to'), and you may just get back into the dream, only concious!

The reason for this, is because your REM will kick in a lot sooner because of all the sleep you ALREADY had. It's like tricking your mind, you know?
Since it kicks in sooner, your brain will not necessarily be ready to enter it, since you've entered it so fast.
That is the key to Lucid Dreaming.
I know it doesn't make a lotta sense, and it didn't at all to me either, but I'm willing to try it in order to fly around the world or visit my 'dream home'.

Wikipedia states that there is strong evidence genetics plays a part in whether you have Night Terrors or not, and I'm assuming the same applies to Lucid Dreaming.

I have had one dream where I was conscious, making my own decisions. I told Ryu about it once. I think I have it written down somewhere, if anyone would like me to find it.. anyway, it's the only dream I've ever had where I've died. I made the decision to speak up in a place where I shouldn't have, and I was killed -.- I woke up with a deep fear/feeling at that moment.

night terrors-for me is when you make a decision you donot want to make and become scared of yourself as who you are in your dream. i donot think you are a special case because anyone can lucid dream during sleep. this was how i first found out about it

i once died in a dream and didnot care and woke up in a dream as someone else
