Forever ?

I got told today that nothing lasts Forever and i found this to be wrong .. for you have:
Some Marriage's
Some Freindships
Some Possesions Could Last..

And Many More things but i don't know what to believe

It depends on your definition (sp?) of forever. If forever means a lifetime, than things like a marriage or friendship are forever. If forever means 'til the end of time, I don't think anything will be forever. Most likely someday humankind will die out, or the sun will blow and our planet will no longer be suited for human live and they think the galaxy (don't know if that is the right word..) might implode only explode again to form a new one without the earth. Things that last forever, it all depends on what you think forever means...

If we consider permanent things to be permanent only during a lifetime, then truly, only ideas can be called permanent, and even they change every hundred years or so.

... someone told me it's the only food that doesn't spoil. If it goes all sugary, apparantly you just heat it up. Still, you could probably blow honey up somehow. I really don't know.

"Forever" is such a strong word, anyway. If you would, MarluxiaNo11, define the word for me. Define "eternity" or "forever", then try to match up some earthly things that last "forever". Goes back to the question, "What is forever?" I've heard it a lot. :/

actually, that is true, honey is the only food that doesn't spoil, archieologests have found it in ancient Egyptian tombs, and it can still be used. nothing can grow in it, if you were to put a piece of bread in it, it would never mold.

i believe that the only things that truely last for forever are light and darkness, like light from the sun, not holyness or goodness or something like that, but true light and true darkness.

The problem is that the Universe gets bigger and cooler. Ever since the Big Bang, it expands, much like an expanding ball of fire after an explosion. Right now, the Universe is still young. It has these cute stars and twinkling galaxies. But in the long run, that will change. Slowly but inevitably, the Universe will empty itself.

First, the galaxies will fly out of sight, beyond the horizon of what we can possibly see. Next, the stars in our own galaxy will burn out, one after the other. The only thing that will remain, is a dull graveyard of cold planets, dead suns and black holes. In about one hundred trillion years, the Milky Way will go black, astronomers expect.

And eventually, even this graveyard decays. One after the other, the dead stars and planets are eaten by black holes, or kicked out of the Milky Way by collisions. Astronomers expect that in one hundred to one thousand billion billion years, our galaxy has dissolved completely.

Time goes on. After a while (more trillions of years) something else will kick in. You’ll notice that even the very stuff nature is made of, isn’t stable. A proton, the particle you’ll find in the core of atoms, has an average lifetime of 100 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 years. Wait long enough, and it will suddenly vanish. Poof, gone. The same goes for light particles, the so-called ‘photons’. They’re expected to last a few zero’s longer, but in the end, they too will kick the bucket, one after the other. Isn’t that just bizarre? The light will go out, literally.

The last thing that survives, are the black holes. But in the end, they too will vanish. They will evaporate in a puff of radiation.

So there we are, at our unimaginable one googol years. Finally, the Universe is totally and utterly empty. You won’t see any light or spot any planet -- in fact, you won’t even find the tiniest speck of dust. The Universe has sterilized itself. All there is left, is emptiness, and darkness. Total oblivion. And worst of all: there’s nothing we can do to stop it. We can build fancy machines or futuristic devices all we like -- but in the end, they’ll all get kicked out of existence, when the matter they are made of simply vanishes.

Light is a classification of a wave of particles, and darkness is merely the absence of those particles.

Both can be changed or negated. They're not permanent.

I'll reiterate what Lectori Salutem stated before me, it really depends on how you define, "Forever."

I personally don't believe anything within nature can last forever. Only when one passes through nature, can they achieve eternity. Meaning, when one dies, eternity might be obtainable.

Oh, and yes, I am basing what I'm saying on Christian philosphies. I apologize if this offends anyone.

A proton just simply dissapears? Can someone give me sources to confirm this? Rather large assumption if you ask me. Is the universe even that old? if not, how can we know that a particle just dissapears?

Also, the universe can very well just recycle itself. Big crunch, big bang, big crunch, big bang, big crunch. Gravity is still there, no matter how weak it is.

Another thing, the universe, existence can happen again, or it always will be. Think about. Either the universe was created from nothing (and the universe will revert to this if the above article is indeed true), therefore, everything goes to nothing. And if nothing became something, it will happen again.

On the other hand, the universe is timeless, and will always be, and always has. No beginning, no end.

Nothing lasts forever,and to be honest, I never really expect it to xD that's why you have to make the msot of every moment. If you are in love, then cherish every second xD likewise when times are rough xD tell yourself it wont be forever.

Nothing lasts forever :3 but that isn't something to be sad about. Besides, a lifetime is long enough <3 once we die, then I guess it doesn't matter. Though I do like the idea of memories or feelings going beyond that xD *is a hopeless romantic*
