So uh, should we be striving for a cure for diseases such as AIDS and cancer? In my personal opinion, I don't think scientists should be trying to find these cures. Not including killings, diseases kill off a ****-ton of people, and IMO, that's a good thing. Humans need morality in our lives and if we start taking that away bit by bit, we'll start to think of ourselves as invulnerable. We also need to keep our shitty population in check :v

Funny how I'm aspiring to be a general practitioner and I have this kind of opinion. Hurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Wow, strange ideology. Anyhow, I believe that we as humans are too egotistical at the thought of us being the dominant species on this planet, when in fact it'll be our downfall; we are always trying to find new ways to exploit, what is; human errors and death. But what makes this such a bad issue? Sure, we want to live on and will do anything in our will to. But heck we are only human.

In my opinion, not really. Now, that's not to say that I don't support AIDs and birth control awareness in places like Africa, because in most cases, AIDs is just a side-effect of some other form of abuse (primarily against women, as we know). However, both AIDs and cancer can more-or-less be prevented. Instead of putting all of this time and money and research into a "cure", could we, perhaps, consume a little less shit? Put a little less shit into the air? Live our lives a little less on backwater, traditional bullshit? Treat each other a little less like shit? Perhaps.

However, on another note, I read a very interesting article by an African American (can't remember his name) who has a very interesting theory on AIDs. He claims that it was essentially created in a lab as a "racial weapon." Now, I'm not claiming that this is the truth, but he gave some very interesting statistics and information that makes me believe that it deserves a run for its money. He also claimed that there was a "cure" for (or rather, a way to prevent) AIDs. Some sort of copper supplement or something (my medicinal knowledge is rather scarse, can you tell?) and that he, himself, had been immunized.

While this sort of thing "keeps the population in check," it is very sad, and we could, instead, just stop frakking each other so much. I guess, in essence, I'm alright with the human race suffering its own consequences, but genocide is a little upsetting.

I'm Catholic, and while we are "ZOMG PRESERVE TEH LIFEZ!", I have to say that I agree with Jay....to a certain extent.

The Earth can only hold so many people, and signs are showing that we've already met that limit. In cities, the poor flood the streets, leaving the, for lack of a better phrase, "low quality" apartments and shelters. Unless we can either:
A: Populate foreign planets,
B: Create alternative fuel sources,
C: Bulid throngs of homes in the sky and the sea,
We shouldn't try to stuff more people or things onto the Earth. There are more than twice as many births as there are deaths each day. Soon, we will be overcrowded, and I'm ashamed to think that our remaining option would be to place the healthy people in a "higher priority". It would simply be horrible. We've just started to develop tolerance for victims of these diseases, which is a reason cures should be found, but if we do nothing and let a large majority to cope with them and possibly die, the remaining victims would suffer far too much.

Also, I don't think we need to worry about a Cure for AIDs or Cancer anyway, because no one is looking for it. Pharmaceutical Companies make billions on the treatment of Cancer and AIDs, they don't want a Cure because then all of that money, that equipment, those prescriptions, all those fancy pills and treatments they come up with and then sell, all of that goes away.

The Pharmaceutical Companies don't want Cancer and AIDs cured, they make too much damn money off of it, so either they sabotage research, cover up any discovered remedies or possible preventions/vaccines/cures, or they simply lie and the money never even goes towards any sort of research in the first place.

I think that if the population was smaller, then we should be looking for a cure for them, but at this point in time, there are like what, 6-8 billion people on Earth? It's just too many for the planet to handle. If we just stoped spreading AIDS, then two problems would be helped, one would be the increasing population, the other would be fewer people suffering because of it. Also, if we were more careful about what we played around with, we would have less of a chance of getting Cancer. Ultimately, it is our fault and we should be punished for what we have done to ourselves.

In general, I'm opposed to finding a cure to AIDS or cancer. They are obviously something that gives us all a feeling of mortality. And, looking at the numbers, the death of a massive amount of our species would be beneficial to the Earth.

Cancer is not a disease. It is a celular abnormality.

As for AIDS, I think we should all just listen to the expression 'Preventing is better than curing.', use condoms.
