Today my guidance counsellor asked me 'bout college (cue dramatic music). I told her where I wanted to go, my major, when I would take SATs (which is coming up soon--I'm freaking out), blah blah. So then she tells me that my dad's waiting outside to ask me something.

My dad hardly ever--strike that, NEVER comes to see me in school. He knows I can handle myself and if I needed help, just to ask him. So I asked what was up, and he told me that by December, his company would claim bankruptcy and he'd move back to his home in Dominican Republic.

I'll explain something now: my parents are in the middle of getting a divorce and are legally separated, and my mom moved to her home in Puerto Rico with my little sister and baby brother, so it's just me and him living together.

Back to the talk, my first reaction was shock. The worst part was that he wasn't finished.

He explained that because I still had to graduate (I am a senior, btw) and I'd be in school until June, I needed to pick someone to live with and ask them if I could stay with them. Then he left and that pretty much ruined my whole day.

I talked to my mom after school, and she suggested that I go with her and start going to school in PR, and end up going to college there too. But I told her my mind was set on FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology).

It was bad enough not having my mom around, but now my dad's leaving, too? I wanted to beg him to stay with me, but what would he do? He's unhappy living without my mom, he hates the cold, and he hates having to depend on others for support. I thought I could get a job and help pay for things, but he doesn't let me get it because he thinks I won't do good in school (which...is probably true).

I really, really wished things would return to normal, but they won't. I know that. But now what the hell am I supposed to do? I love my relatives, but I can't just ask them to take me under their roof.

Help?

They will understand it isnt your idea to have this happen. they knw you wouldnt ask unless this uncontrollable change happened.

If this ends up helping il be surprised because im sure you know we will all say this but if you just wanted to discuss this then I mightve helped.

.... You think this will be the last time you see each other? No. If you get money, you could EASILY afford to see them all the time. You're talking as if they're completely disappearing on you.
