^thats not good in some cases, you can't really expect yourself to grow if you're completely biased about your own work being good from perspectives such as color theory, negative space, etc.

Also, like a lot of other people here, it is very rare that I start on a project unless it is something for a grade or a request in a shop. Personal projects are something I just tend to avoid, but I don't think it's necessarily good to. You'll have to at least make some personal projects and experiment for growth and such. I feel the two main reasons are one people are lazy and two people are afraid of what others might think.
