Default New Challenger Approaches: Steam Box

Valve Working On ‘Steam Box’ Console To Rival Wii U, PlayStation 4 And Next Xbox? | My Nintendo News

So apparently, Valve is putting out its own console to rival the other three. It's kind of an interesting concept, I think, but I'm not sure how I feel about it. Don't get me wrong, I love Steam, and I have 50+ games on my Steam account, but I'm not sure how this will all work. It says that the console will be able to play all retail PC games, so I'm assuming the games on my account will transfer over? I dunno, this seems kind of interesting.

If it's a real thing, I'm definitely looking into it. I <3 Steam, and I think it'd be cool to see a console-oriented release from Valve.

Well, if there's any company that I'd think of who would jump into the console market, it'd be Valve.

I suppose this would make all of their games automatically exclusive, and I could see quite a few of their exclusive titles coming from Indie developers.

It might work like a HTPC. It's rumoured that Steam will allow other services like Origins to run on their 'Steam Box', which suggests that it's a PC for the living room rather than a console.

I'm still very interested, especially if it plays like a high-tech PC for the price of a console.

    All of my money.

Depends what you expect the price range to be. There's another company doing something similar to what Valve is attempting in terms of 'PC in your living room'.

    New! Alienware X51 Desktop

And that is in the price range of £500 - £900.

Did anyone else think of SSB when looking at the title?

I've never used Steam, but I might consider getting this new console.

If you're currently a PC gamer, I see little reason (at the moment) to get a Steam console. However, if you're one of those gamers who snob PC titles because they are on a PC, I could see the reasoning behind this as the many great games exclusively on (or better on) Steam could reach a new demographic.

Also, I guess having a standardized system could possibly be more of a cost efficient way (for the consumer) in obtaining those games as PC gaming can be a bit pricey.

I'll probably consider getting this, then nag my family to buy it for me.

Sounds stupid. Steam is fine on PC, we don't need a Steam Box releasing and flopping. It's just a waste of time.

I am one of those people and this sounds amazing to me. I can't afford a gaming PC, not can afford (for work related reasons) to waste my money ON a PC. Because it's pretty much expected/required of the art community that you work on a mac, which leaves a shit ton of games I'll never get to play. But I do have a solid tv, and I do love PC gaming. So this is perfect.

This is pretty much my thought on the subject.

I also can't afford a gaming pc and I would definitely consider getting this if it would be possible to bring all the games I own on Steam to my enormous television.
