How in hell do I resurrect pawns when they die before they vanish???
I turned of tutorials because it constantly kept telling me how to turn on the lantern, I know how to use the diddlying lantern!
Other then that the game is awesome, I love it

What's funny is, I don't remember that actually popping up for me as tutorial. I just had a friend tell me how for the demo.
Also I have cyclops killing down to a science. Kratos has nothing on me.
If you're on PSN, add me. You can apparently use your friends' pawns for free, regardless of their level. So if you're low level, my pawn will be of incredible aid to you.

Is this game any good? might pick up next week.
Are you playing on PS3? =O
I admit, against bandits my shield is my most valuable weapon. Otherwise they would flank me and just spin at me until I die (that spin move they do is really annoying). Also always make sure you have a mage in the group that can heal. Nothing else matters.
Also I fought a chimera in the forest yesterday. Way more difficult than the one in the tutorial level. Once you get it down to just the lion head, it goes into rampage mode and starts lunging all over the place non-stop. I can't figure out how to make him stop and hurt it. I just end up latching on and hope not to run out of stamina. Then I do run out and, and squashes it me before I can do anything.
The nighttime gameplay, job system, online features, fantastic atmosphere, etc. have already convinced me to buy this game--but I need to ask: Is the story at least palatable? Traditional fantasy tropes are fine with me, provided they're executed well...
The story is extremely minimalistic. Your main character's village is attacked by THE dragon, The Wyrm, and you attack him. Then you get your shit wrecked, he smells the chosen one smell about you, rips out your heart, eats it, and flies away. Then you wake up with a scar on your chest, and a voice in your head basically saying "come get me bro", and the game just kinda...lets you do whatever the hell you want after that. I haven't found any sort main quest line since then. Or at least, no central story quest. There are several quests that just force themselves upon you, and those could be construed as main quests.
Add me then. :D My PSN is the same as my username here.
Maybe that's why I have so much trouble with it. I tend to solve my problems by stabbing them in the back and hoping they don't turn around.

This is my concern too. I rely heavily on a game's narrative for me to get engrossed in it. Dark Souls was still fun though despite its story (full disclosure: I haven't finished it yet) but it had multiplayer to make up for it. That's pretty much the reason I'm kind of reluctant to invest in this game. I heard it's good but I also heard that about Skyrim (I got like 2 hours in before stopping, I just don't find it fun).
I've read/heard the story is really bland and that the cutscenes are hit-or-miss in terms of execution and tone. I want to want this game but I think I might wait til it's cheaper before I pick it up.
Rent it. If by the time you've fought off the hydra (which only took me an hour or two to get to) and you're still not having fun or still not interested, it's not for you.
DD's selling point is the gameplay, not story. Story is, alright I guess. It isn't too horrid that you stop caring but not amazing that you get invested. Killing things is really fun. And exploring is rewarding. Day and night have different things going on. You can only get certain items at night and day, some monsters pop up at night, people actually go to bed so houses can get locked, it is an actual world.
Skyrim can have its dragons. This wyrm is friggen HUGE. You are only as tall as his foot. When you are attacking him, you can really see how big he is. And yay! He has his own language. :3
