Spoiler: Mushroom=Content; Knight=Me
I hope this new content sheds some light on the nature of Artorias' covenant with Kaathe--whether it was a necessary evil for the sealing of the Four Kings, or whether Artorias truly fell from grace.
The presence of the "Oolacile Tomb" area confirms that the Darkroot Garden is indeed the land of Oolacile, or at least one of its colonies.
She was one of Gwyn's four captains, and her corpse can be found resting on Artorias' headstone.
Unfortunately, it seems it's going to done on Games For Windows Live, which is probably one of the most horrible online distribution and DRM services - updates delayed by months thanks to Microsoft review requirements, regular corruption of save files, no anti-cheat protection, and more.
That, and I keep hearing that the PC content will be PC-exclusive. In both these decisions, it sounds like it's the publisher and not the developer pulling the strings. From would want their game to be on a good platform and any additional content to be available to the whole of the audience, since pretty much every DaS player is by definition a core player.
If enough PC versions are purchased, I think Namco-Bandai would be open to another fan petition, this time for console DLC. The platform choice, however, could hamper this...
At this point, I reserve my judgments for the actual release of Prepare to Die Edition.
His ring states that "he made a covenant with the beasts of the abyss in order to hunt the darkwraiths." So it's possible that as other people have speculated he joined the darkwraiths as sort of a double-agent, trying to fight it while being a member. I have no idea how he became what the expansion depicts him as, though. Possibly corrupted by the darkness, or he became undead (if he wasn't already, I have no idea) and hollowed.
I can't wait to get in his armor though, lord knows I'll be doing some serious cosPvP as Artorias. I'm also curious what other armor sets we'll get, probably Gough's, and I'm still hoping for some more information on Ciaran besides just knowing she exists through item descriptions.
Totally forgot that her ring was found on a corpse, yeah doesn't look like she'll be making an appearance as an NPC.The presence of the "Oolacile Tomb" area confirms that the Darkroot Garden is indeed the land of Oolacile, or at least one of its colonies.

The enchanted ember is "a vestige of the lost land of Oolacile" , and it was found in the ruins at Darkroot, which was pretty solid evidence before that darkroot area most likely=lost land of Oolacile, but yeah looks like there's confirmation now.
Awful. That may very well be a deal breaker for me. I suppose I could understand the reasoning behind going with GFWL (so that they can port over their Xbox netcode, I guess), but yeah... that might just be too hardcore for me.
Edit: Looks like there's already a petition to get rid of GFWL.
Spotted that petition, and signed it a couple of hours ago. Thanks for posting it here, too.
Just dropping off the box art, which features our first clear look at Sir Artorias (art book disregarded): http://blogs-images.forbes.com/erikk...ie-edition.jpg
EDIT: Artorias Close-Up
In looking for interesting ways to play the game (with particular styles or limitations, mainly) I've come across this concept, and will be implementing it as soon as possible with a Fire+10 or Lightning+5 Bandit's Knife.
I'm also gonna make another build, where I make a game of terrifying newcomers in the Burg and Parish. Going to dress in Darkwraith helmet, Black Gold-Hemmed cloak/chestpiece, the corresponding leggings or those from the pardoner guy, plus his gloves. I'm thinking of going with a shotel because it can ignore shields, and upgrade it with some non-lightning elemental effect. In the other hand I'll have a Pyromancy Flame with the various poison pyro's as well as iron flesh. I won't actively chase after people. Instead I'm simply going to walk after them, letting them think they can run away to safety, but eventually get them.
