PS3 finally, for the first time, beat the Wii and 360 in sales this month. Couldn't beat DS, though.

As for software, ODST wiped September with its sales. 1.5 million.

It was going to happen eventually anyway. Sony's been playing the same business game for years.

That's why I got my PS3 instead of the 360. It's a console that was made with a long term view to it. I just play the 360 at friends but now the 360 doesn't really have anything to offer more than the PS3 these days IMO. Even games that they used to have as exclusives are being ported or remade for PS3.

Well it took until 2003 for the PS2 to get its real momentum, anyway.

Exactly, I think of the consoles like businesses. You don't start off as a big business but over time you grow and can even dominate the market.

320,000 of it was made simply because a new model of the console was released. So, we're talking, the PS3 actually had a good run of about 160,000 non-launch-spike consoles sold. Forever Atlas, this is not a "resurgence" of the PS3, or Sony's excellent marketing strategy climbing to the top, it was a single week that accounted for 3/4ths of the months net units sold, and all other weeks were business as usual

If the "console wars" were a Business, the PS3 filed for bankruptcy out of the gate, and last I checked, going bankrupt isn't a marketing strategy for a comeback to #1.
