Hard to tell with JRPGs, you know. Actually, Breath of Fire doesn't do androgynous. I'll blame it on the sprites, and my not noticing the sentences above the screen captures.

shit's so generic maaaang

other than "HOLY FUCK TEEPO TWIST" near the end of the game, it's pretty easy to foreshadow. Also, while characters are unique in a sense, their personalities are really typical for their designs. Thus, generic.

Also, Ryu being the "only" last survivor of the Brood is kind of "lol I saw that coming".

doesn't sound any more generic than pretty much every jrpg
