Default Nintendo DS successor in the works?

nVidia Tegra wins contract for next-gen Nintendo DS - Bright Side Of News*

Basically some company nVidia Tegra is going to partner up with Nintendo in 2010/2011 time frame to create the successor of the DS. That means this will NOT be an upgraded DS. It will be a new hand held system all together like the DS was to the GBA.

What can we expect this new hand held to have? smaller and thinner cartridges? no cartridges at all? two touch screens?

Only time will tell

EDIT: Clarification (10/19/09)

Yeah a new DS is releasing in 2010.

Which gives me all the more reason to not buy a DSi and laugh at those who did :X

I didn't even know that. Well damn, better start saving up the dough for the next DS, then.

So much for the idiots who bought the DSi and I hope my old DS is compatible with any games they release since I'm not keen to buy a new one although it's been four years.

What is hilarious is that the Zune HD is already powered by the Tegra chip, and is going to be interactive with the Xbox 360 and have its own games.

So in a sense, Microsoft has already beaten the Nintendo DS to it, and it doesn't even have an official gaming handheld lol.

Though nVidia will make a brand new Tegra chip for the DS(3?) I suppose.

I see no reason to release a new version, let alone hint at a new one since the current model is still selling like hotcakes.

I don't think I know anyone with a DSi, or a PSP for that matter.

Me, I'm good with my Lite until a completly new DS handheld comes out.

DS-game compatibility.
Bought content can be put on by the SD card, rather than through just Wi-Fi-ing.
Average game size of 256 mb.
Improved graphics.
Smaller screen pixels for higher detail.
Slightly enlarged screen.
Good-quality camera and microphones.
VoIP/Skype kind of thing between Wi-Fi DSes.
Large/comfortable styles, more like an actual pen.
In-console solid-state drive. 4gb minimum.
In-built internet browser, with large amounts of customisability.

Maybe that's just what I hope for.
But all that's damn well possible.

Lite > All.

Bigger screens and such don't matter to me. I'm perfectly happy with my Lite.

I just don't see the reasoning of releasing the DSi, then releasing the next DS this soon. Now, if Nintendo decides to make it's big games like Zelda and Mario DS3 only, and they start doing that with all their big games. I'm never buying another Nintendo product again. Also ew to 2 touch screens.

Why do I get the feeling this new DS is just to battle ROM downloading even more after they found out the DSi sure as fuck didn't get the job complete.

I'm actually laughing my ass off at the dumb fucks who thought getting a DSi was a good idea. I have my DSLite from two years ago and it's still sexy, still works like a beauty and still does what I want it to do without the shitty excuse of a crap camera and crap Internet. If I want Internet, I'll use my computer. If I want to take photos, I'll use my camera. Who the fuck would walk around and take pictures with their DSi, seriously? Waste of money, imo. I bet the vast majority of those who bought the DSi are gonna be biting their nails in worry about how they're gonna afford this new model. While you're jacking off over your new toy, I'll be laughing my ass off all the way to the bank to collect that £400+ that I didn't spend on pointless "upgrades".
