So, for the longest time, I had a vague but everpresent dislike of Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, the series' third, acclaimed GBA title, which was mostly due to the fact that I'd played it at a much younger age and found it difficult and boring. This was something that ended up convincing that Castlevania games probably weren't my bag for a looooong while, and kept me from trying out any other games in the franchise. At the behest of some of my friends, however, I decided to give the series another go with Symphony of the Night, one of the more beloved titles in the series. Needless to say it didn't take long for me to find myself in love with the game; since then I'd played a multitude of other Castlevania games and can give the series, overall, a big thumbs-up.

But then later, it occurred to me: "Everyone fucking loves AoS for whatever reason: maybe I should give this shit another try too". Five minutes into the game and I was already under the impression that I'd been completely wrong about the game and I take back anything bad I've ever said about it. Haven't beaten it yet, but so far it's been a very enjoyable experience. Great sprites, music, the backgrounds are simply amazing, etc, etc. It's the fucking GBA Castlevania game, something I wouldn't have called it just a few years ago.

tl;dr Have any of you ever tried a game out a few years previously, hated it, then came back a few years later and found that you suddenly loved it, or at the very least, that it wasn't as bad as you made it out to be? Why do you think that is?

In my case, it probably has to do with the fact that I was simply not that good at/had worse taste in videogames back then. I don't remember how long it was since I played the game last, but it must have been at least 4 years ago. Since that time I've become a significantly better gamer, and as such don't find the game hard or boring at all.

When I first played Final Fantasy XII early 2007 I didn't like it that much because I wasn't really interested in console RPGs at that time but a few months later I decided to give it another chance and loved it. It's the best RPG I've played.

When I was a kid, I tried playing Super Street Fighter II Turbo in the arcades. Fucking AI raped the shit out of me because I didn't know how to throw a single hadouken, let alone a fucking tatsu or shoryuken. Since then I was like, MANG STREET FIGHTER FUCKING SUCKS.

Then Ben got me into fighting games late 2008, starting with SNK games like KoF and Garou. Slowly but surely, we moved onto the SF series and now it's my favourite game series C:

Actually the opposite way around has much more often happened to me. :/

But to be honest, one particular group of games I could think of, would be arcade games like Space Invaders, Pac-Man, Tetris, etc.

fighting games were entirely dependent upon who you had to play with

i never really had anyone to play games with growing up other than taylor and a few others on occasion and that was mostly mario kart and diablo (also ff: crystal chronicles)

also also: nba hangtime
